Job Description

Robotics Engineer (Remote, US)

Rex.zone connects mid-senior engineers with full-time remote roles building real-world robotic systems across autonomy stacks, perception, controls, and motion planning for production fleets and lab prototypes.

About The Role

You will design, implement, and validate robotics software components for autonomy and robot behavior, spanning perception pipelines (camera, LiDAR, IMU), localization and mapping (SLAM), motion planning, control loops, and ROS/ROS2 integration.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain ROS/ROS2 nodes, message interfaces, and real-time data pipelines
  • Build perception and sensor fusion modules for robust state estimation
  • Implement localization, mapping, and navigation behaviors using SLAM and planning algorithms
  • Design control strategies for mobile bases or manipulators (PID, MPC, cascaded control)
  • Create simulation-first workflows using Gazebo or Isaac Sim for regression testing
  • Optimize performance for CPU/GPU and embedded constraints
  • Integrate with hardware drivers and calibrate sensors
  • Run validation in simulation and on-robot, including safety and fault handling
  • Document system architecture and operational procedures for deployment

Required Qualifications

  • Mid-senior experience shipping robotics software in production or advanced R&D
  • Strong C++ and Python for robotics and real-time systems
  • Practical ROS/ROS2 experience with debugging tools (rosbag, rviz) and distributed systems concepts
  • Solid understanding of kinematics, dynamics, control systems, and state estimation
  • Experience with SLAM, sensor fusion, and motion planning foundations
  • Ability to design tests, troubleshoot field issues, and drive root-cause analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • LiDAR/camera calibration, time synchronization, and sensor drivers
  • Autonomy safety practices, fault detection, and operational design domains
  • Manipulation, grasp planning, or whole-body control exposure
  • CUDA/OpenCV or acceleration for perception workloads
  • Embedded Linux, Docker, CI, and robotics deployment practices

Compensation

Hourly base pay range: $30–$50 per hour (Remote, US).

Team collaboration may include California-based programs while remaining remote within the US.

How To Apply

Apply via Rex.zone and include a short summary of robotics systems you have shipped (navigation, perception, controls, simulation, or manipulation), plus links to demos, publications, or code samples if available.
