Job Description

Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech is a leading European quantum computing company. We deliver cutting-edge analog and digital-analog quantum computing platforms to top-tier research institutions and industrial partners. Our mission is to bring practical quantum advantage to the world through high-performance systems and expert services.

We are now expanding our Deployment Team to support ambitious initiatives like EuroQCS, and we are looking for motivated hands-on professionals to help us build and install our next-generation quantum computers.

Why we’re hiring

As our hardware scales (flip-chip, PCBs, dense wiring, resonators, shields), simulation quality becomes a bottleneck. We need someone who can run reliable RF/EM simulations, build verification discipline, and produce studies the team can trust to set direction.

The Role

We are looking for an RF/EM Simulation Engineer to own electromagnetic and circuit simulations for quantum hardware packaging and interconnects. You will work at the intersection of:

  • Resonators / coupling networks
  • Flip-chip / bump interfaces and clearances
  • Superconducting PCBs and wiring
  • Crosstalk / parasitics / impedance matching
  • Sensitivity to misalignment & manufacturing tolerances

This role is a mix of simulation + engineering judgement + methodology.

🫡 Key Responsibilities:

Build and run EM simulations in Keysight ADS (Momentum/RFpro/Quantumpro) and/or Ansys HFSS (or CST) for structures such as resonators, couplers, transitions, shields, and interconnects.

Define simulation best practices for the team:

  • Mesh and convergence criteria
  • Boundary conditions
  • Port definitions and calibration
  • Material models (including superconducting approximations)
  • Geometry clearance rules

Produce trustworthy studies:

  • Frequency placement / dispersion
  • Coupling and inductance extraction
  • Crosstalk and mode analysis
  • Sensitivity vs clearance, misalignment, tolerances

Create validation loops:

  • Compare EM results with measurements when available
  • Generate simple test structures for correlation
  • Maintain “simulation vs measurement” dashboards / reports

Deliver design recommendations and “sign-off” notes for tapeout readiness.

Collaborate with chip designers, packaging engineers, and experimental teams to translate simulation outcomes into practical design rules.

📝 Minimum requirements:

  • BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Telecommunications, or similar
  • Strong hands-on experience with ADS and/or HFSS (academic or industrial)
  • Ability to run simulations with discipline: ports, boundaries, convergence, verification
  • Understanding of RF fundamentals: resonators, impedance, S-parameters, parasitics
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to challenge results until they are defensible

🤹 Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with superconducting circuits / cryogenic RF (not mandatory)
  • Familiarity with EM/circuit co-simulation (ADS + EM extraction, HFSS + circuit)
  • Experience with tolerance analysis / Monte Carlo / robust design
  • Python/MATLAB for post-processing and automation
  • Prior work on PCBs, interconnects, packaging, or microwave structures

You don’t need prior “quantum” experience. We will teach the domain; we need the simulation rigor.

What success looks like (first 3–6 months)

  • Establish a repeatable simulation workflow with clear checklists (ports, mesh, convergence, geometry rules).
  • Produce a validated resonator study and a coupling/inductance extraction report that the team uses for design decisions.
  • Deliver a “design rule” document for clearances and tolerances to avoid frequency shifts and unrealistic sensitivity.
  • Reduce design iteration surprises by correlating at least one key structure to measurement.
