We are looking for a Senior QA Embedded Engineer to join our team full-time in a US remote capacity. This role is key to ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of our embedded products used across Motive’s product ecosystem. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with both manual and automated testing in embedded environments and a solid understanding of hardware-software interaction. You will help validate system behavior across real-world scenarios, contributing directly to customer-impacting features.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, and execute test plans and cases for embedded hardware/software systems.
- Perform both manual and automated testing across firmware, mobile, and web integrations.
- Collaborate closely with development, product, and hardware teams to understand technical requirements and use cases.
- Create and maintain automation frameworks for embedded devices.
- Conduct integration, regression, and system-level tests across key features (ELD, GPS, AI camera, OBD, CAN, etc.).
- Report, track, and validate defects using tools like JIRA.
- Participate in code and test reviews; provide QA insights during product design and sprint planning.
- Test firmware interactions with mobile apps, web dashboards, and Motive’s platform.
- Debug embedded issues using tools such as serial consoles, CAN analyzers, etc.

Contribute to documentation, process improvements, and knowledge sharing across the QA organization.
- Bachelor's or Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in embedded QA, ideally in fleet, automotive, or IoT systems.
- Experience in both manual and automated QA for embedded platforms.
- Strong knowledge of embedded architectures and real-time systems.
- Proficiency in Python and/or C/C++ for test scripting or automation.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, OBD-II, UART, BLE, and Wi-Fi.
- Hands-on experience with hardware testing tools and diagnostics is a plus.
- Prior exposure to Agile development, CI/CD workflows, and QA best practices.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong ownership and accountability.
- Experience testing AI camera systems or telematics devices.
- Knowledge of GPS, accelerometer data, and vehicle integration.

Exposure to test management tools (e.g., TestRail) and analytics platforms (e.g., Redash)

The compensation range for this position will depend on where you reside. For this role, the compensation range is:

$82,000—$124,000 CAD

What we're looking for
At embedd.it, we power hardware-software integration in embedded devices. We turn fragmented semiconductor chip data into configurable digital twins, then deterministically generate code, tests, and documentation – making integration faster, cheaper, and resilient to supply chain shocks.
We’re looking for a true legend – someone with abstract thinking and deep expertise in low-level software development. You’ll build vendor-agnostic tooling for MCU and peripheral integration to solve hardware-software integration once and for all. We work at the intersection of embedded systems, code generation, compilers, and machine learning. It’s your chance to help redefine how low-level development is done.
Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture of the driver structures and system layout
- Define scalable patterns for cross-architectural integration across bare-metal, Zephyr, Linux, and other environments
- Deconstruct complex SoC device trees and translate hardware descriptions into structured internal models for automated reasoning
- Partner with the ML team to shape data and annotation models for AI-driven data-extraction tooling
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems development, including bare-metal and RTOS-based systems
- Proficiency in C/C++
- Familiarity with firmware configuration, SoC bring-up, and system-level debugging
- Hands-on experience with code generation tools, or low-level compiler/decompiler/emulator technologies
- Strong background in embedded toolchains: compilers, linkers, debuggers, and build systems
- Python or scripting for automation and tooling is a plus
- Experience with functional-safety standards is a plus
