The Raytheon Effector Sub-System Products Department is currently seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer for the Advanced Front-End Hardware organization in Atlanta, GA. You will develop software and firmware solutions to enable leading-edge miniaturized sensors and systems to future generation technologies across RTX.
What You Will Do
The Principal Embedded Software Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams—including systems, firmware, electrical, and software engineers—to develop innovative software and firmware solutions for airborne radar antenna arrays and RF payloads. This role involves defining and deriving software and FPGA-level interface requirements from system-level specifications, designing associated architectures, performing simulations and analyses, and testing solutions in laboratory environments.
This position requires a highly motivated self-starter with strong software and electrical engineering expertise. You’ll work in a fast-paced, dynamic product development environment, contributing to advanced electronic warfare and sensor systems. Success in this role depends on your ability to troubleshoot complex issues, implement creative solutions, and apply a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles—particularly as they relate to RF, FPGA, power, and digital circuit integration. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential for effective collaboration and maintaining alignment with program leadership.
Qualifications You Must Have

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.

Developed and tested embedded software applications using C and C++, with additional automation and scripting performed in Python and Perl to support build, integration, and verification processes.

Designed and implemented software for embedded microprocessors and system-on-chip (SoC) architectures, including integration with FPGA-based systems, DDR and flash memory interfaces, and high-speed serial transceivers.

Built and deployed real-time embedded applications on bare-metal and embedded Linux platforms, ensuring deterministic performance and compliance with system timing requirements.

Experience with embedded microprocessor design, system on a chip software design, FPGAs, high-speed transceivers, DDR, flash memories, block diagrams, signal analyses or signal generation.

Qualifications We Prefer

Existing security clearance at the level of Secret.

Electronic Warfare Electronic Attack/Electronic Support (EA/ES), Radar, or Secure Communications technology knowledge Strong background in software engineering design.

Experience with .NET C# using WPF and MVVM, Visual Studio, Vitis, TortoiseSVN, Jenkins, Jira, Collaborator.

Lab experience in product testing using logic analyzers, high-speed. oscilloscopes, signal generators, and system on chip debugging tools.

Experience with interfaces and bus standards such as: VME, PCI, PCIe, VPX, or Gigabit Ethernet (GbE).

Experience in software lifecycle phases: software architecture, system/software requirements analysis, design, implementation, verification testing, system integration, and post-delivery maintenance.

Experience with Radar technology, machine languages, software algorithm development, and Agile development processes.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
