What You’ll Do In This Role:

We are seeking a motivated and technically curious Power Electronics Summer Intern to support our On-Board Charger (OBC) and DC/DC converter development activities. This role provides hands-on exposure to automotive power electronics design, value engineering (VAVE), cost optimization, and market analysis within a fast-paced product development environment. In this role, you will:

  • Support power electronics design activities for automotive OBC and DC/DC converter systems, including schematic review, component selection, and design trade studies.
  • Assist with VAVE (Value Analysis / Value Engineering) initiatives to improve cost, performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Perform BOM (Bill of Materials) clean-up and optimization, including: Component standardization, Obsolescence analysis, Cost and sourcing comparisons
  • You will support market and competitive analysis for automotive power electronics, including:
  • Benchmarking competitor products
  • Tracking technology trends, power levels, and architectures
  • Summarizing key cost and performance drivers
  • Analyze and document engineering data, test reports, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, systems, manufacturing, supply chain). Prepare technical summaries and present findings to the engineering team.

What’s In It for You:

  • Hands-on experience with production automotive power electronics systems.
  • Exposure to the full product lifecycle – from design and cost optimization to market positioning.
  • Mentorship from experienced power electronics engineers.
  • Practical understanding of engineering trade-offs, VAVE, and cost-driven design.
  • Opportunity to make tangible contributions to active product programs.

What You’ll Bring:

Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

Knowledge: Fundamental understanding of power electronics concepts such as DC/DC converters, AC/DC conversion, magnetics, and switching devices (MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC/GaN); Familiarity with schematics, electronic components, and BOM structures; Interest in automotive electrification, EV charging systems, or cost/value engineering.

Tools: Programming: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with data visualization or automation tools is a plus; Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Altium, OrCAD, or similar engineering tools is preferred.

Skills: Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to evaluate technical data and power electronics behavior; Ability to manage structured and unstructured engineering information with high attention to detail; Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.

Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly document analyses, summarize findings, and collaborate across technical teams.

Where You Will Work: This position will be based at Visteon’s Headquarters in Van Buren Township Michigan, GLCC, 40 hours per week for 12 weeks (12-14 weeks).
