Job Description

MissionHires is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to join an on-site Advanced Development/Platform R&D team in Fremont, CA, supporting high-power AC/DC conversion systems for data center applications. This role focuses on R&D, prototyping, and reference design work spanning single- and three-phase systems from kW to MW scale. You'll drive lab bring-up and testing, engage directly with U.S. customers on technical evaluations, and own complex escalations beyond typical FAE scope. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Note: This position does not include production ramp or sustaining engineering responsibilities.

What You'll Do

- Develop and iterate high-power AC/DC prototypes and reference designs (single- and three-phase; kW to MW)

- Plan and execute subsystem investigations: topology comparisons, efficiency improvements, protection strategies, thermal and EMI mitigation

- Perform hands-on bring-up, characterization, and debug using oscilloscopes, power analyzers, electronic loads, and related lab equipment

- Analyze test data, document findings, and implement design adjustments to meet performance targets

- Participate in technical discussions with U.S. customers to gather requirements, explain trade-offs, and recommend approaches

- Support customer evaluations by preparing test results, addressing design questions, and providing timely technical follow-up

- Translate customer feedback into actionable engineering tasks and targeted experiments with internal teams

- Drive structured debug plans for complex escalations, conducting hypothesis testing and root-cause analysis beyond standard FAE processes

- Coordinate containment actions and resolution options with global R&D partners

- Share results and best practices with global R&D centers; contribute to common design guidelines

- Create clear engineering artifacts: test plans, experiment reports, design notes, and concise recommendations

- Work on-site in Fremont with frequent lab collaboration; support occasional travel for U.S. customer engagements

What Makes You a Great Fit

- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Power Conversion/Drives, or related field preferred

- Strong fundamentals in power electronics with proven hands-on lab capability

- Experience designing, testing, or debugging high-power converters (AC/DC and/or DC/DC and/or inverter/rectifier)

- Ability to engage customers in technical discussions and communicate clearly in a professional setting

- Self-motivated, dependable, and collaborative; effective working across time zones and functions

- Preferred: Experience in renewable/high-power applications (e.g., solar inverters, PCS, EV charging, UPS, industrial power) applicable to MW-class systems

- Preferred: Familiarity with high-power semiconductors (IGBT/MOSFET/SiC/GaN), gate drives, sensing, and protection schemes

- Preferred: Practical understanding of EMI/EMC fundamentals and mitigation in high-power switching systems

- Preferred: Experience with simulation/modeling tools (SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS)

- Preferred: DSP/MCU digital control experience (not required)

- Must be on-site in Fremont, CA; frequent lab work and in-person collaboration; occasional travel as needed

Perks & Benefits

- Salary $180,000 - $200,000
