Job Description

The position involves multidisciplinary and collaborative work in space programs related to quantum and optical technologies, especially Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). You will be able to work in real space programs with the aim of implementing these state-of-the-art technologies in commercial satellites, starting from the definition and feasibility phase, and ending with launch, operation, and commercialization. Therefore, a deep knowledge of these matters, experience in managing space programs, and willingness to work together with an experienced team are required. Within the New Programs department, you will have the opportunity to work in cooperation with industry, academia and customers, in new and challenging areas developing technologies which will end up as practical implementations in Space.


The responsibilities associated with the position are as follows:


  • Oversee the Design, development, construction and integration, of quantum and optical space payloads with industry according to the requirements and planning.
  • Project management, contractual, planning, and contribution to technical solutions in the different internal and external projects, both European, national, and international in which the company is involved (e.g., ESA projects). Work with different stakeholders: partners, sub-contractors, integrators, operators and customers.
  • Preparation of the necessary deliverables for the different on-going projects in a timely manner.
  • New proposals identification, management, preparation, coordination with the different partners and proposal writing.
  • Work in the transition of the output of the different projects into the commercialization phase defining SLAs, implementation plan, business case, use case engagement, market analysis etc to become an operational product.
  • Evaluate the different technological alternatives for the system in terms of cost, complexity, and the achievable overall system performances. Perform a coherent tradeoff between the different technologies for a feasible implementation in line with the targeted system performances.
  • Monitoring of new developments and advances in space quantum and optical technologies.
  • Identification, prospecting, and development of future technology programs for satellite infrastructure, in coordination with the Innovation and Product Strategy management.
  • Analysis and evaluation of the new quantum and optical technologies and their implementation in a product to be exploited and commercialized. The following activities are included: coordination with the various related areas, analysis with manufacturers, cost analysis, market analysis, product definition and a Business Plan.
  • Active participation in QKD standardization groups (UNE, CEN-CENELEC),
  • Active participation in workshops and meetings.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree MSc, in Telecommunications Engineering or Physics.
  • Between 3 and 5 years of experience.
  • High level of English, both spoken and written (C1).
  • Experience managing space programs at European (ESA, EC etc) and national level. Ideally in R&D projects.
  • Experience in quantum communications (especially QKD protocols and crypto), optical technologies, and satellite systems projects.
  • Experience in space services implementation and productization of systems ready for the market. Experience in OSS and BSS Systems
  • Ability and innovative spirit to propose new ideas on consolidated, state-of-the-art, or new products.
  • Proactive, desire to learn and ability to work as a team member.
  • Excellent communication, analysis, and organization skills. A person with good oral and written expression is required.


IDEALLY:

  • Hands-on experience in quantum communications hardware
  • Experience in the design and implementation of classical telecommunication networks, especially KMS, orchestration of different layers, channel attacks and cybersecurity.
  • Familiarity with EuroQCI and QKD active standards (ITU, ETSI etc)
