Lead Embedded Software Engineer
Location: Columbia City, IN (Onsite)
Salary: $150–175K Bonus + Benefits
Key Responsibilities
Code & Architect
-
Spend at least 50% of your time designing, writing, and architecting embedded C software for microcontrollers (bare-metal strongly preferred)

Define software requirements and contribute to overall system architecture

Develop, test, debug, and validate both new and legacy embedded code
Technical Ownership
-
Serve as the technical lead for embedded software deliverables across programs

Ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to established engineering standards

Document design, implementation, and verification efforts
Mentor & Lead

Provide technical direction and mentorship to early-career engineers
-
Conduct code reviews and promote engineering best practices
-
Act as a force multiplier across the team
Build & Improve
-
Develop reusable tools, frameworks, and processes to accelerate development
-
Champion continuous improvement across software development workflows
Collaboration & Support
-
Work closely with program management, cross-functional engineering teams, and customer stakeholders
-
Participate in regular software development meetings
-
Travel occasionally to government and non-government test facilities
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
-
10–20 years of embedded software engineering experience, ideally within mission-critical or defense-related systems

Deep expertise in C programming for embedded systems

Strong experience with bare-metal development

Experience working within complex technical organizations

Demonstrated technical leadership and mentorship capabilities

U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with RTOS (FreeRTOS preferred)

Embedded Linux experience
-
Familiarity with programmable logic (FPGA development using VHDL or Verilog)

Experience with communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet)

Understanding of digital signal processing (A/D, D/A, filtering)

RF, cryptography, and IP networking experience
-
Proficiency with lab/test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers)

Experience with Java, Python, or MATLAB
-
Excellent hardware/software troubleshooting skills
-
High initiative and ability to self-manage in an autonomous environment
