Junior & Mid-Level Embedded Software Engineers

In Lisbon, SWJ has a Competence Center for Embedded Development. We cover Embedded Software, Electronics Design and Testing (V&V). Our projects focus on areas of high impact, including Automotive / Electrified Mobility and Smart Factories.

We are currently hiring a Junior to Mid Level Embedded Software Engineer to integrate our SW Development team.

About our ideal candidate:

You are passionate about embedded systems, like to understanding how things work and have a good passion for writing well-structured C code.

C is your language of choice because you enjoy being close to the hardware when coding.

You use Python to a minor degree in scripts that help your workflow.

You occasionally enjoy reading a microcontroller Datasheet and Reference Manual.

You have been around Embedded systems for 1+ year(s) . You like working along like-minded people and thrive working in a group.

Above all, you like getting work done!

Desired competences

• Previous experience in Embedded Development (if you have done as part of a University team (FST/PSEM/…) that counts too!)
• Experience in developing using C, for bare-metal or RTOS embedded systems.
• Excellent capability in developing algorithms and well-structured code.
• Experience with inter-device communication protocols (any of the following: SPI, I2C, CAN, LIN or similar)
• Bonus skills:
• You like interacting with Hardware and working in the software-hardware cross over domain.
• Consequently, you are able to understand “system level” concepts and the end goal of how the system shall behave.
• Past experience with ARM Cortex M based microcontrollers
• Good competences with the English language, including technical writing: we are a multinational team and English is how we communicate.
• Knowledge of Portuguese language is a plus.

Your daily responsibilities

• Developing C code for new algorithms and features, for integration in the existing code bases
• Writing and running your local tests and debugging, to make sure you commit code that is “smoke tested” before handover. (this is normally done in Python or similar)
• Regularly communicate your progress and resource availability to your Software Lead.
• Positively participate with suggestions and ideas regarding your tasks, towards an environment of continuous improvement.

Work place and model

This is a hybrid work position: The Company’s offices are in Lisbon, Portugal, close to the Gare do Oriente transport hub (Parque das Nações).

The typical workweek is composed of 3 days in-office and 2 days working from home.
