Job Description

This job is posted for Lightspeed via Parallel

Lightspeed is building the future of construction using advanced robotics and AI. Our systems, DEX and BRUTE, reinvent how homes are built—faster, more precise, and more affordable. We're looking for a hands-on mechanical/robotics engineer to design the machines that will transform the industry.

What You’ll Do

  • Design robotic systems, mechanisms, end effectors, and automated manufacturing equipment
  • Create detailed CAD assemblies (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.) and validate designs with FEA
  • Integrate motion systems, sensors, actuators, and mechanical interfaces
  • Build and test prototypes in real manufacturing environments
  • Lead and mentor a small engineering team while collaborating with software, electrical, and operations
  • Support manufacturability, fabrication processes, CAM workflows, and quality control

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience designing production or automation systems
  • Strong CAD skills and knowledge of CNC machining, sheet metal, welding, and fabrication methods
  • Experience with robotics hardware, motion systems, precision mechanisms, and sensor integration
  • Ability to prototype, iterate quickly, and validate designs under real-world loads
  • Bonus: experience in construction robotics, industrial automation, heavy equipment, or prefab systems

Why Join Lightspeed

  • Your work directly becomes the robotics that build homes and address the housing crisis
  • Solve cutting-edge mechanical challenges at the intersection of heavy machinery + precision robotics
  • Hands-on engineering culture with full access to shop, prototyping, and advanced R&D tools
  • Competitive compensation, equity, benefits, and professional development support
