Description
As a Firmware Performance Engineer, your challenge is to ignite the full power of Apple hardware for demanding user experiences while operating elegantly within tightly constrained environments. You’ll work closely with cross-functional partners and use a range of tools and techniques to measure, profile, and assess firmware performance. You will collaborate with hardware architects and chip design teams to drive optimizations for Apple Silicon, and influence next-generation CPUs. Engage with multiple teams, from hardware engineering to compiler, application, and frameworks teams, to drive world-class system performance.
Responsibilities

Investigate performance data to identify bottlenecks and potential focus areas.

Build performance benchmarks, analysis tools, and scripts, and infrastructure.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive performance improvements.

Prototype fixes in various codebases showcasing performance improvements.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience

Strong understanding of OS fundamentals

Ability to collaborate across teams to drive development and performance optimizations

Scripting and programming skills in C/C++, Python, etc...
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in embedded software development

Experience in RTOS and firmware development

Experience with low-level performance analysis

Knowledge of modern CPU and memory architectures

Expertise with profiling tools and analysis (Instruments, VTune, etc.)
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $116,800 and $226,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple Inc.’s discretionary employee stock programs. Employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit award recommendations, and can purchase Apple Inc. stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple Inc.’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
