Job Summary

We are seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to develop and support firmware for custom motion-control and positioning products. This role offers broad ownership across the complete product lifecycle—from architecture and component selection through development, testing, manufacturing, delivery, and customer acceptance.


The position is approximately evenly divided between new product development and sustaining engineering. You will work with both modern embedded platforms and established products that require continued support, redesign, or modernization due to component obsolescence and evolving cybersecurity requirements.


This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working directly with hardware, solving varied technical problems, and seeing complete products move from concept to successful deployment. The position is based in the Cedar Park, Texas area and offers some hybrid flexibility when project and hardware-testing requirements permit.


Job Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware for motion-control and positioning systems.
  • Support products throughout their complete lifecycle, from initial concept and prototyping through manufacturing, shipment, customer acceptance, and field support.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, test, and software engineers to define product architecture and integrate firmware with hardware.
  • Participate in the selection of microcontrollers, components, communication interfaces, development tools, and embedded platforms.
  • Develop firmware that interfaces directly with motors, encoders, actuators, sensors, and other electromechanical components.
  • Diagnose and resolve firmware, hardware, and system-integration issues during development and in deployed products.
  • Sustain and enhance existing products, including redesigning systems affected by component obsolescence, security requirements, or changing customer needs.
  • Develop prototypes and support system testing, documentation, manufacturing readiness, and product-launch activities.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams and customers, serving as a subject-matter expert for assigned products.
  • Contribute to both customer-funded custom projects and internally funded research and product-development initiatives.
  • Evaluate new technologies, development tools, components, and engineering approaches.
  • Help standardize firmware architectures, hardware platforms, components, documentation, and development practices.
  • Maintain organized and accurate product records, source code, design documentation, and test results.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Professional experience developing embedded firmware or embedded software using C and C++.
  • Experience developing software that interacts directly with microcontrollers, embedded processors, and hardware components.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and collaborate effectively with electrical and hardware engineers.
  • Experience debugging firmware-to-hardware interactions using appropriate development and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to independently own technical work while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work with both modern and legacy products, technologies, programming languages, and development environments.
  • Ability to work regularly onsite in the Cedar Park, Texas area. Hybrid flexibility may be available when project requirements permit, but some project phases will require daily onsite work.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status due to potential work involving export-controlled technologies.

The following experience is strongly preferred:

  • Motor control, motion control, positioning systems, servo systems, motors, encoders, actuators, or feedback-control systems.
  • Embedded communication protocols, particularly CAN.
  • Assembly language or experience supporting legacy engineering applications, including Visual Basic.
  • Sustaining engineering, component-obsolescence redesign, or product-lifecycle support.
  • Custom equipment or low-volume engineered products.
  • Industrial automation, robotics, instrumentation, aerospace, defense, semiconductor equipment, manufacturing equipment, or test-and-measurement systems.
  • Standardizing embedded platforms, firmware architectures, components, or engineering practices.
  • Taking an embedded product from architecture and development through testing, launch, and field support.
