We are seeking a highly skilled Firmware Engineer to join our team. As a Firmware Engineer at Turion, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing firmware for various payload R&D projects and spacecraft bus development.
This is a full-time, exempt position based on-site at our Irvine, California headquarters.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and verify firmware for embedded systems and spacecraft components
- Develop and optimize firmware for efficient data handling and processing
- Collaborate with hardware and software teams to define firmware requirements and specifications
- Support R&D efforts of new space-based payloads and systems
- Implement and optimize signal processing and control algorithms in firmware
- Integration of firmware with hardware platforms
- Perform debugging, testing, and validation of firmware on prototype and flight hardware
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure system functionality

Lead verification and validation of firmware-based systems
- 2+ years of experience developing firmware in a professional environment
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related field
- Proficiency in embedded systems programming using C/C++
- Proficiency working with firmware development tools
- Proficiency writing drivers from scratch for new hardware
- Proficiency reading and understanding chip specifications
- Strong understanding of embedded systems principles and methodologies
- Strong documentation and collaboration skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Experience with microcontroller and microprocessor systems

Must be able to obtain a Secret and/or a TS/SCI clearance
- Proficiency in assembly programming
- Experience with firmware development tools such as JLink, Keil, IAR, and GCC
- Experience with FreeRTOS and embedded Linux.
- Experience with firmware verification techniques and methodologies
- Proficiency in scripting languages including Python and Bash for automating firmware build and verification processes
- Experience with IO, timing, and performance optimization
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, and Ethernet.
- Experience with high-speed and low-speed serial interfaces
- Experience with dynamic RAM controllers
- Experience designing tight loop interrupt driven high performance systems
- Familiarity with high-speed FLASH interfaces
- Experience with image sensors and camera systems
- Experience with networking protocols and packet processing
- Familiarity with build tools such as Make and CMake

Familiarity with hardware description languages such as VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog

Senior Embedded Software Engineer

What we're looking for
At embedd.it, we power hardware-software integration in embedded devices. We turn fragmented semiconductor chip data into configurable digital twins, then deterministically generate code, tests, and documentation – making integration faster, cheaper, and resilient to supply chain shocks.
We’re looking for a true legend – someone with abstract thinking and deep expertise in low-level software development. You’ll build vendor-agnostic tooling for MCU and peripheral integration to solve hardware-software integration once and for all. We work at the intersection of embedded systems, code generation, compilers, and machine learning. It’s your chance to help redefine how low-level development is done.
Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture of the driver structures and system layout
- Define scalable patterns for cross-architectural integration across bare-metal, Zephyr, Linux, and other environments
- Deconstruct complex SoC device trees and translate hardware descriptions into structured internal models for automated reasoning
- Partner with the ML team to shape data and annotation models for AI-driven data-extraction tooling
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems development, including bare-metal and RTOS-based systems
- Proficiency in C/C++
- Familiarity with firmware configuration, SoC bring-up, and system-level debugging
- Hands-on experience with code generation tools, or low-level compiler/decompiler/emulator technologies
- Strong background in embedded toolchains: compilers, linkers, debuggers, and build systems
- Python or scripting for automation and tooling is a plus
- Experience with functional-safety standards is a plus
