Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s ā€œIntelligent Cloudā€ mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. As Microsoft's cloud business continues toĀ growĀ the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, inĀ high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance.Ā We are seeking a Firmware Engineer to join our team within SCHIE, where we build the foundational firmware that powers Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure—including itsĀ cutting-edgeĀ AI accelerator silicon. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across Azure’s custom silicon programs and contribute directly to the firmware stack that enables Microsoft’s most advanced AI workloads.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop,Ā debug,Ā testĀ and releaseĀ firmwareĀ forĀ Azure’s customĀ AIĀ silicon programs, including developingĀ and testingĀ firmware on pre-silicon platforms and post-silicon platformsĀ 

  • Collaborate with silicon, hardware,Ā architectureĀ and software/firmwareĀ teams to deliver secure, production-grade firmwareĀ 

  • Participate and drive SoC bring up and troubleshootingĀ 

  • ParticipateĀ and support silicon’s Data Center deployment and operationĀ Ā 



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:Ā 

  • Ā Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:Ā 

  • Proficient in embedded RUST, RUST RTOS’s and toolchains  

  • Experience with SoC bring-up, OS primitives, and multi-threadingĀ 

  • Experience in working in pre-silicon environmentsĀ 



Firmware Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
