Location: Seattle, WA

Position Overview

As a Firmware Engineer at Glidance, you will be responsible for the embedded software that powers the intelligence, sensing, and control of our personal mobility devices. You will work closely with robotics, hardware, and software teams to implement low-level systems on our STM32 microcontroller platforms that are robust, efficient, and responsive to real-world conditions.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is excited to write code that lives on the edge—directly interfacing with sensors, actuators, and safety-critical control logic.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for STM32 microcontrollers in C/C++.
• Implement low-level drivers for sensors, actuators, and communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, CAN).
• Collaborate with hardware and robotics engineers to integrate firmware with system-level components.
• Optimize real-time performance and reliability of embedded systems.
• Conduct unit testing, debugging, and system validation using lab tools and field testing.
• Maintain clear and structured code and documentation for compliance and future development.
• Contribute to system bring-up, bootloader design, and firmware update strategies (OTA or wired).
• Support board-level troubleshooting and diagnostics during prototyping and production.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in embedded systems development, preferably in a robotics or consumer device context.
• Deep expertise in STM32 microcontroller family (HAL, LL drivers, CubeMX, FreeRTOS).
• Strong skills in C and C++, with experience in memory-constrained and real-time environments.
• Hands-on experience with debugging tools (JTAG/SWD), oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
• Familiarity with motor control, power management, and sensor fusion is a plus.
• Knowledge of safety-critical firmware design practices and fault-tolerant systems.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a fast-paced, mission-driven team.
