Firmware Engineer, Thermal Imaging Systems

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Firmware Engineer with a strong background and proven experience in firmware and algorithm development for embedded microcontrollers. The role involves development and optimisation of reference systems based on Meridian Innovation’s thermal imaging sensor, off-the-shelf RGB imaging sensors, and various MCUs including NPU-enabled microcontrollers for edge devices.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of the core firmware library that enables contemporary MCUs (ARM or RISC-V) to control and communicate with Meridian Innovation’s thermal imaging sensors.
• Implement, test, optimize, and deploy thermal image processing algorithms related to temperature conversion, denoising, and structuring of the sensor data.
• Implement and manage communication algorithms and protocols for common interfaces, including I2C, SPI, UART, USB.
• Collaborate with data analytics team to understand and implement algorithms for conventional and AI-based image processing that enable us to extract structured data from the unstructured thermal image.
• Support design in of our sensors in customers products, based on the reference systems developed by Meridian Innovation.
  
  
  

Qualifications

• BSc or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering
• Extensive experience with thermal imaging sensors or other electro-optical systems
• Proficiency in C, C++, and Python or Java and relevant development and testing frameworks
• Extensive experience in firmware development, deployment, and testing for MCUs, including working with oscilloscope and signal/protocol-analyser tools and equipment
• Understanding and experience of electronic circuits and PCBs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Experience in developing algorithms for smart technology.
