FPGA Engineer - Build the Vision Systems Europe Doesn't Have Yet
📍 The Hague · €80,000- €120,000 + equity!
🔧 SystemVerilog / VHDL · real-time video processing · edge detection · multi-sensor fusion · EU sovereign FPGAs (NanoXplore, Cologne Chip GateMate)
You've spent years getting RTL to behave. Timing closure, clock domain crossings, the quiet satisfaction of a pipeline that holds at latency when it has no business doing so.
Most of that work ends up buried in a product nobody remembers.
This ends up on someone's head, in the dark, where the latency budget isn't a target - it's the entire point.
This is a defence-tech company in the Netherlands building next-generation night vision. Multiple sensor inputs fused at the edge, real-time edge detection, the processed feed rendered straight into an augmented reality overlay you wear rather than watch. Software can't get there fast enough. That's why the FPGA exists.
Everything is built in-house. Proprietary hardware, proprietary software, no reliance on foreign or restricted components. Around 20-25 serious engineers from aerospace, microelectronics and machine vision backgrounds. Real deployment timelines, not slideware.
🎥 Own the video pipeline on hardware people actually wear
🌍 Work on genuinely sovereign technology - the kind Europe currently has to import or go without
🔬 Take the FPGA subsystem end to end, from RTL through to validated hardware
⚡ Direct line to the founding team, flat structure, zero corporate drag
📈 Early equity and a front-row seat as this scales
What you'll be doing
🎯 Building real-time video processing pipelines on FPGA, including edge detection
🧠 Fusing multiple sensor modalities - thermal, low-light and more - on the edge
🥽 Driving processed imagery into an augmented reality display
🧩 Owning simulation, timing closure and on-hardware validation
🤝 Working shoulder to shoulder with optics, sensor and embedded software teams on interfaces and requirements
You'll love this if...
✅ Real-time video or image processing on FPGA is home turf
✅ You've taken designs from RTL all the way to validated hardware
✅ You'd rather own a whole subsystem than a thin slice of one
✅ Low-power, resource-constrained design is a puzzle you enjoy, not a constraint you tolerate
✅ You want your work to count for something
Nice extras
➕ MIPI, LVDS or other camera interface experience
➕ Exposure to less mature or open-source toolchains
➕ Background in defence, robotics, drones or embedded vision
One thing worth flagging up front: this role requires NATO-friendly citizenship or a valid EU work permit.
Because great teams are Built Different.
