Job Description

FPGA Engineer – Quantum Computing & Advanced Imaging Systems

Location: Hampshire

Position: Permanent, £100k +

Working Pattern: Full-Time, Onsite

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an FPGA Engineer to join a pioneering engineering team developing cutting-edge technology at the forefront of quantum computing, advanced imaging and surveillance detection systems .

Working on highly classified programmes, you'll play a key role in the design and implementation of high-performance FPGA solutions that power next-generation sensing, signal processing and compute platforms. This is a genuinely unique opportunity to work on technology that pushes the boundaries of what's possible, alongside some of the UK's leading engineers.

This role is fully onsite, providing close collaboration with multidisciplinary hardware, electronics, embedded software and systems engineering teams throughout the complete product development lifecycle.

The Role

As an FPGA Engineer, you will:

  • Design and develop FPGA solutions for high-performance, mission-critical systems.
  • Develop RTL using VHDL, Verilog or SystemVerilog .
  • Take designs through the full FPGA development lifecycle, including architecture, simulation, synthesis, timing closure and verification.
  • Work closely with electronics engineers on FPGA integration with complex digital hardware.
  • Support board bring-up, hardware integration and system-level debugging.
  • Develop high-speed interfaces including PCIe, DDR memory, Ethernet and high-speed serial communications.
  • Optimise FPGA designs for performance, resource utilisation and power efficiency.
  • Contribute to verification, validation and laboratory testing activities.
  • Collaborate with embedded software, hardware and systems engineers on advanced technology programmes.

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Commercial experience developing FPGA solutions.
  • Strong experience with VHDL, Verilog or SystemVerilog .
  • Understanding of FPGA design, simulation, synthesis and timing analysis.
  • Experience integrating FPGAs into complex electronic systems.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • High-speed digital design.
  • PCIe, DDR, Ethernet or SerDes interfaces.
  • Signal processing or image processing.
  • Machine learning or AI acceleration on FPGA.
  • High-speed PCB integration.
  • Embedded systems or low-level software development.
  • Signal Integrity (SI), Power Integrity (PI) or EMC considerations.
  • RF or high-frequency electronic systems.
  • Hardware verification and validation.

Why Join?

The position and package is one of the best currently available on the market at over £100,000 per year salary.

You'll be joining an organisation investing heavily in advanced technologies with projects spanning quantum computing, next-generation sensing, surveillance and intelligent imaging systems . Engineers are given genuine technical ownership and the opportunity to work on programmes that have a real-world impact while using the latest FPGA and electronic design technologies.

If you're looking for technically challenging work, long-term career development and the chance to contribute to highly advanced engineering programmes, this is an outstanding opportunity.

Security Requirements

Due to the highly classified nature of the work, this position requires applicants to be British Nationals who are eligible to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of UK Security Clearance. Unfortunately, candidates who do not meet this requirement cannot be considered.
