Job Description

This position requires onsite work at Tucson, AZ and an active Secret security Clearance. Candidates who do not hold this clearance are not eligible for hire.

Solidus is seeking a highly skilled FPGA Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary engineering team. In this role, you will own the full development lifecycle from initial requirements and collaborative algorithm modeling to VHDL coding, simulation, and physical place-and-route. Working alongside circuit card designers and systems engineers, you will implement high-reliability designs across Xilinx, Altera, and Microsemi platforms for advanced applications like gigabit serial interfaces, RF/EO digital signal processing, and embedded processing. If you thrive on taking complex concepts from a blank canvas all the way through integration and laboratory testing, we want you on our team!

Day In The Life

  • Develop and verify designs for all major FPGA vendors and device families including: Xilinx, Altera, and Microsemi
  • Designs are implemented using VHDL for the following applications: gigabit serial interfaces, Radio Frequency (RF) and Electro Optical (EO) DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing and processor interfaces
  • Designers work with circuit card designers and systems engineers to develop requirements, architect new parts, collaborative modeling of algorithms, code development, simulation, and place and route
  • Designs are verified against requirements and design support is expected from requirements definition through integration and test
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 5 + years of relevant software engineering experience
  • Expert-level command of VHDL for hardware description and testbench development
  • Hands-on proficiency with major toolchains like AMD/Xilinx (Vivado), Intel/Altera (Quartus), and Microsemi (Libero)
  • Proven track record of taking designs through the full Place and Route (P&R) flow, closing timing, and optimizing resource utilization
  • Practical experience implementing and debugging gigabit serial interfaces (e.g., PCIe, Ethernet, or custom high-speed SerDes protocols)
  • Ability to implement complex algorithms for DSP applications, specifically targeting Radio Frequency (RF) or Electro-Optical (EO) systems
  • Experience designing controls, data links, embedded processing units (like ARM or MicroBlaze), and standard processor interfaces (AXI, SPI, I2C)
  • Collaboration with system engineers to translate high-level system requirements into FPGA architectures
  • Working closely with circuit card designers to define pinouts, signal integrity constraints, and power requirements
  • Experience collaborating with systems or math teams to model algorithms (often in MATLAB/Python) before translating them into VHDL
  • Knowledge of simulation tools (e.g., ModelSim, Questa) for pre-silicon verification, followed by hands-on lab experience using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers for hardware integration and testing
  • Cultural fit amongst a collaborative team environment

Benefit selection, customer contractual specifications, relevant work experience, skills, competencies, certifications, and clearance status will influence the final salary.
