Job Description

GTS Space is working with a company who designs Earth observation camera solutions for the global small satellite market, and they are looking for an FPGA Engineer to join their team in France.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about FPGA design and enjoys getting stuck into complex technical challenges. You will play a central role in the design, development and validation of robust firmware that sits at the heart of next-generation space products, working alongside electronics, systems and mechanical engineers in an agile, collaborative environment where technical excellence really matters.

What you will be doing:

  • Designing and implementing FPGA firmware for space-related electronic systems
  • Developing software for embedded microcontrollers
  • Working closely with hardware engineers and cross-functional teams including systems engineers, software developers and project managers
  • Testing and debugging firmware using simulation tools and real-time testing environments
  • Using Python scripting for testing and automation
  • Producing detailed documentation and maintaining records of firmware versions and modifications
  • Contributing to research and development activities to enhance firmware performance and reliability

What they are looking for:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in FPGA-based firmware design, development and testing
  • Experience developing firmware for embedded systems based on FPGA platforms
  • Proficiency in C and VHDL, including high-speed FPGA design using VHDL
  • Experience with FPGA tools and platforms such as Xilinx or Microchip
  • Hands-on experience testing and debugging firmware in real-time environments
  • Python scripting experience
  • Familiarity with simulation tools and hardware-in-the-loop testing
  • An understanding of high-reliability design practices
  • Strong documentation skills
  • A Bachelor's Honours Degree in Engineering or a Bachelor of Science in Engineering

Desirable, but not essential:

  • A Master's Degree in Electronic Engineering
  • Certifications in embedded systems, FPGA design or related areas
  • Familiarity with Microchip FPGA design tools
  • Experience in CMOS sensor based electro-optical designs
  • An understanding of radiation effects on electronics
  • Experience in environmental and acceptance testing to high-quality standards
  • Familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter

What is on offer:

  • The chance to work in the fast-growing space industry
  • A niche global market for optical payloads for microsatellites
  • Cutting-edge technology at your fingertips
  • A competitive salary
  • A friendly working environment
