We are looking for a passionate and energetic Software Engineer-Intern to join our team atĀ AlteraĀ®.Ā  Altera is the pioneer of programmable logic solutions, enabling system and semiconductor companies to rapidly and cost effectively innovate, differentiate and win in their markets.Ā  Altera combines theĀ programmable logic technology with software tools, intellectual property, and customer support to provide high-value programmable solutions to many customers worldwide.Ā 

In this role, you will be researching/designing/developing/optimizing software forĀ Quartus, the compiler that programs allĀ current/next generation of Field Programmable Gate ArrayĀ (FPGA) devices.Ā 

  • Quartus is used by allĀ FPGA acceleration technologiesĀ (including High Level Synthesis, FPGA AI Suite, DSP Builder,Ā etc)Ā 

  • At the heart of Quartus is ourĀ Place and RouteĀ engine which is responsible forĀ transforming HDL to bitsĀ such that a user's design isĀ optimized for area and FmaxĀ 

  • Cross-functional interactions with various customers (internal and external)Ā 

  • Best of both worlds,Ā hardware and software:Ā 

    • Customer's hardware requirements:Ā Fmax, throughput, timing closure and areaĀ 

    • Compiler SW optimizations:Ā runtime and memory, including abstractions and frameworks for acceleration with the FPGA for domains such as deep learning, DSP algorithms, or data analyticsĀ 

As part of the Quartus team, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Ā 

  • Developing softwareĀ support for successful routing of theĀ latest next generation FPGA devicesĀ 

  • Owning various modulesĀ of theĀ compilerĀ fromĀ device modeling to timing closure to runtimeĀ 

  • Implementing new featuresĀ in addition to root-causing and fixing the existing ones, while maneuvering your way through a big code baseĀ 

The pay range below is for Bay Area California only. Actual salary may vary based onĀ a number ofĀ factors including job location, job-related knowledge, skills, experiences,Ā trainings, etc. We also offer incentive opportunities that reward employees based on individual and company performance.Ā Ā

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

The candidate must be currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering and experience in:

  • Developing softwareĀ support for successful routing of theĀ latest next generation FPGA devicesĀ 

  • Device modeling, timing closure and runtimeĀ 

  • Implementing new featuresĀ in addition to root-causing and fixing the existing ones
