Join our Data Centers group and play a key role in developing SolarEdge's next generation of high-performance power electronics solutions. We are seeking a FPGA Designer to join our HW team. In this role, you will design and develop high-performance FPGA solutions for control systems and inter-device communication. You will take ownership of complex hardware designs involving board-level integration, chip-to-chip communication, and high-speed serial protocols. This position requires strong technical expertise in digital design, communication protocols, and self-motivation to drive projects from concept to implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize FPGA implementations for control and communication applications using industry-standard hardware description languages (Verilog preferred)
- Architect and implement high-speed communication protocols including line-to-line and chip-to-chip communication interfaces
- Develop SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) controllers and asynchronous communication modules operating up to 100 Mbps
- Integrate Ethernet connectivity and MAC layer functionality into FPGA designs
- Collaborate with embedded, hardware and PCB design teams to ensure seamless board-level integration
- Design PCB layouts for FPGA peripheral ICs and related components
- Perform hands-on PCB-level testing, design validation, and debugging
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and verification strategies for FPGA designs
- Create detailed technical documentation including design specifications, timing diagrams, and implementation reports
- Perform timing analysis, simulation, and synthesis to optimize design performance and resource utilization
- Work independently on assigned projects while maintaining quality standards and project schedules
- Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge with the team
Requirements
- BSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of professional FPGA design and development experience
- Proficiency in Verilog
- Demonstrated experience with SPI and serial communication protocols
- Strong understanding of digital design principles, timing closure, and resource optimization
- Experience with chip-to-chip and board-level communication interfaces
- Knowledge of asynchronous communication design and implementation
- Familiarity with FPGA synthesis and place-and-route tools
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent problem-solving and technical documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Ethernet MAC integration and high-speed serial protocols (GigE, 10GbE)
- Hands-on experience with board design and PCB layout considerations for high-speed signals
- Experience with power management and low-latency control systems
- Knowledge of hardware security and encrypted communication protocols
- Experience with simulation and testing tools
- Familiarity with agile development practices
- Previous experience in the renewable energy or power electronics industry
