We are revolutionizing the way the world moves for future generations, and we want someone who is ready to move with us.

Who are we?

Wabtec Corporation is a leading global provider of equipment, systems, digital solutions, and value-added services for freight and transit rail as well as the mining, marine, and industrial markets. Drawing on nearly four centuries of collective experience across Wabtec, GE Transportation, and Faiveley Transport, the company has grown to become One Wabtec, with unmatched digital expertise, technological innovation, and world-class manufacturing and services, enabling the digital-rail-and-transit ecosystems.

Wabtec is focused on performance that drives progress and unlocks our customers’ potential by delivering innovative and lasting transportation solutions that move and improve the world. We are lifelong learners obsessed with making things better to drive exceptional results. Wabtec has approximately 27K employees in facilities throughout the world. Visit our website to learn more!

The Engineering Manager shall lead the development and growth of Wabtec’s Brake Electronics capability in India for Transit applications. This role is responsible for building a strong, self‑sufficient engineering team, reducing dependence on the European Centers of Competence (CoC), and enabling high‑quality, customer‑focused execution across the full brake electronics lifecycle.

The role combines deep technical leadership, people management, and strategic capability development. The successful candidate will lead a team of approximately 10 Electronics Engineers, while working closely with global stakeholders, including the European CoC, systems engineering, software, validation, manufacturing, and customer project teams.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Ownership

Provide technical leadership for brake electronics systems used in transit applications, including:

ECU / electronic control units

Power electronics and I/O modules

Sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces

Safety‑critical electronics for braking systems

Act as the India engineering point‑of‑contact for brake electronics architecture, design decisions, and technical reviews.

Ensure designs meet Wabtec standards, applicable railway norms (e.g., EN, IEC), and safety requirements for brake systems.

Support system‑level trade‑off decisions in collaboration with brake systems, software, and validation teams.

Capability Building & Localization Strategy

Drive the strategic development of brake electronics capability in India, with a clear roadmap to:

Increase end‑to‑end design ownership within the India team

Systematically reduce reliance on European Centers of Competence (CoC)

Improve speed, cost efficiency, and customer responsiveness

Lead and execute Transfer of Technology (ToT) initiatives from European CoC to India, including:

Structured knowledge transfer plans covering architecture, design rationale, lessons learned, and legacy platforms

Progressive transfer of responsibility from support roles to full ownership

Ensuring long‑term capability retention beyond individual projects or people

Establish and institutionalize best practices, design guidelines, templates, and technical review processes for brake electronics engineering in India.

Work closely with supplier engineering teams to strengthen local capability by:

Engaging key electronic component and system suppliers early in the design phase

Supporting supplier technical reviews, design validations, and problem resolution

Enabling alignment between Wabtec engineering requirements and supplier capabilities

Collaborate with sourcing, quality, and manufacturing teams to support supplier localization strategies where appropriate, without compromising safety, quality, or compliance.

Continually assess skill gaps and capability maturity in the India team and define targeted training, mentoring, and exposure plans to close them.

Act as a bridge between global and regional stakeholders to ensure consistent application of global standards while enabling local execution autonomy.

Team Leadership & People Development

Lead, mentor, and manage a team of ~10 Electronics Engineers.

Develop technical depth, system thinking, and domain expertise within the team.

Perform regular performance reviews, coaching, and career development planning.

Foster a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and collaboration.

Support hiring plans as required to meet capability and project demands.

Project Execution & Delivery

Ensure on‑time, high‑quality delivery of brake electronics deliverables for transit customer projects.

Work closely with program management to support cost, quality, and schedule objectives.

Proactively manage risks, technical issues, and resource constraints.

Provide transparent status reporting to engineering leadership and stakeholders.

Global & Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Work effectively with:

European and global brake electronics CoC

Systems engineering, software, RAMS, validation, manufacturing, and sourcing

Represent the India team in global technical reviews and governance forums.

Support customer discussions and technical clarifications when required.

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics / Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Experience

12–16 years of experience in electronics engineering, ideally within:

Rail / transit systems

Automotive braking, safety‑critical, or embedded electronics domains

Minimum 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams.

Proven track record in developing electronics products from concept to industrialization.

Prior experience working with global or matrix organizations.

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of:

Analog and digital electronics design

Power electronics basics

Microcontroller‑based systems

Communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, etc.)

Experience with safety‑critical electronic systems.

Familiarity with railway or functional safety standards is highly desirable.

Ability to engage in architecture‑level discussions, not just component design.

Leadership & Behavioural Skills

Strong ownership mindset with the ability to build and scale new capabilities.

Excellent communication skills, capable of influencing across geographies.

Structured problem‑solving and decision‑making ability.

Comfortable operating in an environment undergoing capability transition and change.

Desirable / Nice‑to‑Have

Prior experience with brake systems or rail safety electronics.

Exposure to EN / IEC railway standards.

Experience supporting customer audits or safety assessments.

Hands‑on experience setting up new engineering teams or domains.

What Success Looks Like

A technically strong, confident brake electronics team in India.

Reduced day‑to‑day dependency on European CoC.

Improved responsiveness to customer and project needs.

High engineering quality and strong collaboration with global stakeholders.

Clear succession planning and sustainable capability growth.
