Position Overview
Overview: MEC is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer with expertise in embedded Linux, BSP development, Yocto, video systems, and embedded platform development. This individual will lead the architecture, design, and implementation of high-performance embedded software for complex, real-time systems and custom Linux-based platforms.
Embedded Software Development
Develop production-quality embedded software in C/C++
Design, customize, and maintain Yocto-based Linux distributions for embedded platforms
Develop and maintain Board Support Packages (BSPs) for custom hardware platforms
Integrate device drivers, middleware, and application software within Yocto build environments
Bring up new hardware platforms and support hardware/software integration activities
Implement and optimize system features and performance
Collaborate across hardware, systems, quality, and regulatory teams
Create design documentation, traceability, and lifecycle artifacts
Qualifications:
7+ years of embedded software development (C/C++)
Strong experience with real-time, resource-constrained systems
Experience with embedded Linux, RTOS, BSP development, and hardware/software integration
Experience building, customizing, and maintaining Yocto Project distributions and Board Support Packages (BSPs)
Experience with Linux kernel configuration, device tree development, boot loaders, and driver integration
Experience with video pipelines, graphics stacks, and display technologies
Experience developing software in regulated or high-reliability environments
Strong debugging, root-cause analysis, and system optimization skills
Preferred:
Strong experience with Yocto Project, BitBake, BSP development, and Linux system customization
Experience with Linux kernel development, device drivers, U-Boot, and board bring-up activities
Experience with FPGA, DSP, or heterogeneous compute platforms
Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and secure development practices
Exposure to cybersecurity, secure boot, OTA/software update mechanisms, and secure device lifecycle management
Experience working within quality systems (IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971)
