Position Summary
Our client, a global leader in advanced autonomous and robotic solutions across multiple industries, is seeking senior-level Embedded Software Engineers to participate in the full software development life cycle for embedded software on unmanned robotic vehicles. The Embedded Software Engineer IV develops and integrates embedded application software for autonomous robotic and vehicle platforms. This role focuses on building scalable, real-time application software that operates on an established embedded software stack, enabling vehicle control, actuator management, and autonomous system functionality. Working closely with software, electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering teams, the engineer contributes throughout the software development lifecycle—from requirements and architecture through implementation, validation, deployment, and field support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded application software using modern C and C++ (C++14 or newer).
  • Develop real-time, multithreaded applications running on RTOS and embedded Linux platforms.
  • Implement application logic supporting vehicle control, actuators, sensors, and autonomous system functionality.
  • Design robust, maintainable software using object-oriented design principles and software engineering best practices.
  • Participate in requirements analysis, software architecture, design reviews, implementation, testing, and validation.
  • Develop and maintain unit tests, integration tests, and automated build and validation processes.
  • Debug and resolve complex software issues across embedded hardware and software systems.
  • Collaborate with systems, electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to integrate and validate embedded software.
  • Contribute to Agile development activities including sprint planning, backlog refinement, code reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Support deployed products by improving software reliability, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of embedded software development experience.
  • Expert-level proficiency in C and modern C++ (C++14 or newer).
  • Experience developing large-scale embedded applications for RTOS and/or embedded Linux environments.
  • Strong understanding of multithreaded, multicore, and real-time software design.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, Modbus, SPI, or serial communications.
  • Experience using Git, GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket within collaborative software development environments.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, static analysis, and code quality tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum software development methodologies.
  • Experience working within structured software development lifecycles, including requirements traceability, verification, and validation.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and software architecture skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing software for robotics, autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, or other embedded electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with embedded Linux and RTOS application development.
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards and requirements-driven software development.
  • Experience implementing multithreaded control applications, actuator controls, PID control loops, or motion control systems.
  • Experience designing scalable embedded software supporting large deployed fleets of connected products.
  • Familiarity with robotics middleware or distributed software architectures.
  • Experience collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated passion for software engineering, continuous learning, and emerging embedded technologies.
  • Exposure to AI technology is a big plus.
