About Us
Cherish develops intelligent radar-based sensor platforms that revolutionize health and safety monitoring wherever people live, work, or play.. Our patented spatial computing technology works ambiently (through the air) without changing how people live and by prioritizing their privacy. We detect emergencies and health and safety risks to bring people timely help so they and their loved ones may live better with more independence, safety, and peace of mind.
We are an experienced and close-knit team of visionaries, business leaders, designers, technologists, creatives, operators, and health and wellness professionals. We are driven by how we care about the people we serve — our loved ones and yours. We show up with urgency daily to create and deliver solutions that will change people’s lives at scale in deeply meaningful ways.
We think and act like a high-energy startup. At the same time, we punch well above our weight. Our sponsors and engineering, manufacturing, and channel partners include multiple Fortune 30 companies and globally leading consumer tech and healthcare organizations with whom we are strongly aligned to move at speed and scale.
Why Work Here?
We're high performers and lifelong learners who enjoy working together, operate with respect and autonomy, and are on a giant mission that matters at a company on a path to an IPO. What more could you ask for?
Systems Software Engineer
We're looking for a proficient software engineer ready to go deep on systems software — C/C++, Linux, embedded platforms, and performance-critical development. You've built real things, you're comfortable navigating complex codebases you didn't write, and you're hungry to grow into ownership of production systems on a genuinely novel technology platform. Android experience is a plus.
Your Superpowers
You describe yourself as pragmatic and curious. You dive deep where performance matters (CPU, memory, I/O, power, startup/latency), you write clean, well-documented interfaces, and you're building the judgment to know when to prototype quickly and when to slow down for hardening and testing. You treat languages and frameworks as tools and are learning to pick the right one for the job.
The Job’s Responsibilities
As a collaborative individual contributor on a team of equals, you'll work alongside people who excel at business strategy, product management, user experience and industrial design, electronics design and engineering, software architecture and development, supply chain and logistics, finance and business modeling, program management, business development, sales, and marketing — in a supportive team setting focused on shared goals.
You will contribute to a team responsible for:
● Writing and maintaining C/C++ code for system services and components, with growing independence over time
● Working in Linux and embedded OS environments on real hardware
● Building and contributing to APIs and communication layers between system components
● Learning and applying performance profiling and optimization techniques under senior guidance
● Contributing to testing, debugging, and validation of production systems
● Collaborating with firmware, ML, and hardware teams on interface requirements and integration
Key Technical Requirements
To hit the ground running, you are comfortable across the entire engineering life cycle leading to a successful product launch and ongoing improvements. In particular:
● BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering or equivalent practical experience
● 2–4 years of hands-on C or C++ development in a professional setting
● Real experience with Linux or an embedded OS environment
● Some exposure to performance-sensitive code — you understand what latency and throughput mean in practice
● Ability to work through moderately complex problems with some independence
● Strong communication skills and collaborative instincts
● Genuine curiosity about hardware-software interaction at a low level
● Some hands-on experience with system services or performance-sensitive components — from a job, internship, or serious personal project
In addition, while not essential, it is a definite plus if:
● Exposure to RTOS, device drivers, or embedded systems
● Familiarity with IPC concepts, gRPC, or service-oriented architectures
● Any Android development experience
● Git and CI/CD comfort
What You’ll Get:
● Mentorship from experienced systems engineers
● Hands-on work on a patented radar-based sensor platform moving toward market
● Exposure to the full embedded software stack
● A clear path to owning meaningful production systems as you grow into the role
Personal Qualities
We’d love you to be self-aware, thoughtful, empathetic, diligent, hard-working, a lifelong learner, and a great team player. You’d show us that you have:
● Strong interpersonal skills and a real interest in building camaraderie and working effectively with a broad range of business and technical collaborators across cultures and disciplines.
● Self-awareness about your own strengths (nobody is great at everything) and the humility to let others contribute theirs.
● Respect and empathy for your team and colleagues, and the ability to disagree openly, commit to a decision, and move forward together.
● A steady drive to keep improving your work and yourself, grounded in the fact that shipping real products for real people is how the work matters.
● Clear, precise, and considerate written and verbal communication that keeps teammates aligned and informed.
Education and Experience
● BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
● Hands-on experience contributing to system services and performance-critical components in a professional setting
● Experience collaborating, or a strong willingness to learn and collaborate, cross-functionally with embedded, DSP, ML, and hardware teams
