Job Description

Join Arquail and support the embedded platform development team of a leading German industrial client. You’ll work on next-generation embedded software for precision control of hydraulic valve systems . This is a hands-on ownership role: porting an existing firmware base to a modern RTOS stack, extending it with a new communication protocol, and delivering production-grade releases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take over responsibility for the BLE-Dongle subsystem firmware end-to-end
  • Port existing firmware from the Nordic nRF5 SDK to Zephyr / nRF Connect SDK
  • Refactor the codebase to align with platform firmware concepts and improve code quality
  • Implement support for a new CoAP-based valve communication protocol over BLE GATT services
  • Implement a compatibility mode supporting both legacy and new functionality/protocols side by side
  • Follow project-specific development processes and produce production-quality documentation
  • Provide electronics-manufacturer-specific documentation and flash images

Technical Requirements

  • 5+ years embedded software development experience
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills for microcontroller environments
  • Experience with BLE or other wireless communication stacks
  • Experience with RTOS-based development
  • Familiarity with debugging embedded systems on target hardware
  • Strong Python skills for automation, scripting, and tooling
  • Good German and/or English communication skills; high capacity for abstract thinking

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Nordic chipsets and the nRF Connect SDK
  • Prior experience porting firmware between SDKs or to Zephyr RTOS
  • Experience designing compatibility/versioning layers for communication protocols
  • Experience with CoAP or other lightweight IoT communication protocols

Initial Onboarding

  • Start with the existing BLE-Dongle codebase to understand current functionality and constraints
  • Early focus on establishing the Zephyr/nRF Connect SDK build environment and validating on target hardware
  • Gradually take on full ownership of firmware releases, documentation, and manufacturer handoff artifacts

Exciting Tech Stack You'll Be Working With

C/C++, GCC, ARM Cortex-M, Nordic nRF5 chipsets (nRF52832 / u-blox BMD-300), Zephyr RTOS, nRF Connect SDK, BLE (GATT services, DFU, SoftDevice), CoAP, serial communication, Python, CMake, Lauterbach µTrace, Git
