Role Description The Embedded Software Engineer contract role at AVS LLC is an on-site position based in Altoona, IA. In this role, the engineer designs, implements, and tests embedded software for a variety of hardware platforms, following established engineering and coding standards. Daily responsibilities include writing efficient and reliable code, debugging and troubleshooting software and firmware issues, and collaborating with hardware engineers to integrate and optimize system performance. The engineer documents software designs, participates in code reviews, and supports continuous improvement of development processes and tools. The role also involves working closely with cross-functional teams to meet project milestones and deliver high-quality embedded solutions on schedule.
Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess strong skills in Embedded Software Programming and hands-on experience with Embedded Software on microcontrollers or embedded systems.
  • Candidates should possess solid Software Development skills, including experience with C/C++ or similar languages, build systems, and version control tools.
  • Candidates should possess proficiency in Debugging and troubleshooting embedded systems using tools such as debuggers, logic analyzers, or oscilloscopes.
  • Candidates should possess competence in Software Design, including working with real-time operating systems, communication protocols, and modular, scalable architectures.
  • Relevant qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Additional beneficial skills include familiarity with hardware schematics, embedded Linux, safety or compliance standards, and experience working in a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Strong analytical thinking, clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to manage tasks and priorities in a project-driven setting are important for success in this role.
