Embedded Software Engineer – UAS & Drone Applications

NxGenComm is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer with a specialization in drone programming and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) applications. The ideal candidate will have experience across the entire software product development lifecycle, with working knowledge spanning from the first-stage bootloader to user-facing applications, including flight control and UAS integration. This role requires a strong team player with excellent communication skills who values knowledge sharing in a collaborative environment.
You will work at the intersection of embedded systems, software-defined 5G, and autonomous platforms, contributing to products that operate at the tactical edge under demanding real-world conditions.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and adapt Linux distributions for multi-core embedded processors

Design, implement, and maintain device drivers for peripherals such as USB, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, and DMA

Develop and integrate UAS software, including flight control interfaces, autopilot integration, and companion computer applications

Work with drone communication protocols and autonomy frameworks (e.g., MAVLink, PX4, ArduPilot, ROS/ROS2)

Integrate UAS platforms with RF, networking, and command-and-control systems

Configure and optimize complex multi-core processor architectures

Support customers deploying existing Linux, DSP, and UAS products

Contribute across the product lifecycle, including OTA updates, security, and field reliability

Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in embedded and autonomous systems
Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science or Master's in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field

2+ years of experience in a relevant field

Strong knowledge of Linux and embedded development

Hands-on experience programming and integrating drones or UAS platforms

Experience with product lifecycle requirements, including OTA updates and security

Strong skills in C and C++

Experience with embedded systems and the ability to navigate low-level technical specifications
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with RF and wireless applications

Experience with UAS autonomy frameworks, flight controllers, or ground control station software

Familiarity with drone regulatory and operational context (e.g., BVLOS, airspace integration)

Knowledge of other embedded systems platforms

Familiarity with ARM-based processors and their peripherals

Experience with additional programming languages, such as Python

Prior work in defense, aerospace, or mission-critical systems

U.S. citizenship may be required for certain programs
