We are seeking a
hands-on Embedded Hardware & Firmware Engineer
to support the development of next-generation electronic products. This contract role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working close to the hardware, combining embedded software development with board-level bring-up, hardware integration, testing and system debugging.
You'll work alongside electrical, mechanical and systems engineers, taking products from prototype through development and validation, playing a key role in ensuring hardware and firmware work seamlessly together.
Key Responsibilities

Develop, modify and maintain embedded firmware for microcontroller and embedded systems.

Support hardware bring-up, board validation and system integration of new electronic designs.

Debug hardware and firmware issues using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, multimeters and other laboratory equipment.

Interface directly with PCB, electronics and hardware design engineers throughout the development process.

Develop and troubleshoot low-level drivers and hardware interfaces.

Integrate sensors, actuators, communication peripherals and embedded devices into larger systems.

Support prototype builds, engineering testing and product verification.

Investigate root cause of hardware and firmware failures and implement robust solutions.

Produce technical documentation, test procedures and engineering reports where required.

Assist with design verification, manufacturing support and engineering change activities.
Required Experience
-
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems or similar.

Commercial experience developing embedded firmware in
C/C++
.

Strong understanding of embedded electronics and digital hardware.
-
Experience working with microcontrollers and embedded processors.

Comfortable working directly with hardware during development and debugging.

Experience with board bring-up, hardware validation and fault finding.

Knowledge of common communication protocols including SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB or Ethernet.

Ability to interpret schematics and work closely with PCB design teams.

Experience using electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes and logic analysers.
Desirable Skills

Embedded Linux or RTOS experience.

Device driver or low-level firmware development.

FPGA integration or programmable logic exposure.

Experience with sensors, motor control or power electronics.

PCB design or schematic capture exposure (Altium, OrCAD, KiCad or similar).

Manufacturing test, DVT/PVT or production support experience.

Experience within robotics, industrial automation, aerospace, defence, automotive, medical devices or instrumentation.
Ideal Candidate
We're looking for an engineer who enjoys working where software meets hardware. You'll be equally comfortable writing embedded firmware, bringing up new hardware, diagnosing electrical faults and collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced contractor who enjoys varied engineering work across embedded systems, electronics and hardware integration in a fast-paced development environment. This is a high Pay W2 contract arrangement and can offer up to two days working from home per week.
