Entry-Level Embedded Hardware Engineer (IoT Systems)
About the company
Urban Company is a technology platform offering customers a variety of services at home. Customers use our platform to book services such as beauty treatments, haircuts, massage therapy, cleaning, plumbing, carpentry, appliance repair, painting, etc., all delivered in the comfort of their home and at a time of their choosing. We promise our customers a high-quality, standardized, and reliable service experience. To fulfill this promise, we work closely with our hand-picked service partners, enabling them with technology, training, products, tools, financing, insurance, and brand, helping them succeed and deliver on this promise.
Urban Company started as UrbanClap in November 2014, when its founders, Abhiraj, Raghav, and Varun, realized that the home services industry was predominantly unorganized, fragmented, and offline. Customers found it challenging to avail quality services conveniently, and service professionals were struggling to make ends meet, having to rely upon several middlemen, contractors, and local aggregators. The founders felt that the industry was ripe for disruption, and launched Urban Company, with three key principles in mind -
1. Customer love: Build a platform that offers truly delightful and differentiated services
2. Partner empowerment: Build a deep, full-stack partnership with service partners, helping improve their earnings and overall livelihood
3. Technology first: Bring innovation and technology to an age-old industry
About the Role
Location: Bangalore, KA
Experience: 0–2 years
Employment Type: Full-time
Department: Hardware Design / R&D
We are seeking a technically inclined and curious Embedded Hardware Engineer to join our IoT hardware design team. The role focuses on developing reliable, low-power embedded systems built around ARM and RISC‑V microcontroller platforms. You will contribute to circuit design, PCB development, and validation, while also participating in product quality improvement through structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and data-driven design enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop hardware circuits for microcontroller-based IoT products.
• Create and maintain schematics, libraries, and PCB layouts using Altium Designer.
• Integrate and interface sensors, power management circuits, communication modules (BLE/Wi‑Fi), and external peripherals.
• Assist in hardware bring-up, validation, and debugging during prototyping and production stages.
• Conduct electrical testing and verification—signal integrity checks, power measurements, and EMI/EMC performance observation.
• Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of field or production failures; identify component, layout, or process-level issues.
• Implement design actions and validation procedures derived from RCA to enhance product robustness and quality.
• Maintain design documentation, revision control, and test records for audit and traceability purposes.
Required Skills and Qualifications
• B.E./B.Tech in Electronics or Electrical Engineering (or related field).
• Solid understanding of analog and digital circuit fundamentals, microcontroller interfaces, and power systems.
• Familiar with ARM or RISC‑V MCU architectures and low-power hardware design techniques.
• Working knowledge of BLE/Wi‑Fi hardware integration and antenna layout considerations.
• Proficiency in Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB design.
• Comfortable using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers for hardware debugging.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
• Exposure to battery management circuits, sensor integration, or power optimization in embedded systems.
• Familiarity with C-based firmware for hardware validation and diagnosis.
• Understanding of EMI/EMC considerations, signal routing, and thermal design.
• Interest in functional testing, prototype validation, and reliability checks for IoT hardware.
• Candidates with prior experience in PCB layout engineering (Altium Designer) looking to transition into full hardware design roles are strongly encouraged to apply.
What We Offer
• Exposure to the full product development cycle—concept design to production validation.
• Hands-on experience with emerging embedded MCU architectures.
• Learning exposure to RCA methodology and structured product quality improvement cycles.
• Continuous mentorship in embedded system design using modern MCU platforms.
• A hands-on, design-driven environment fostering technical depth and practical problem-solving.
