About Position

We are looking for The Embedded Software Engineer contributes to embedded development of advanced motor control and robotic subsystems for Whiskerʼs next-generation smart pet products. Operating at the front end of innovation, this role focuses on designing, prototyping and productization of high-performance electromechanical systems.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded software solutions for connected devices and hardware platforms in Linux/RTOS environments.
• Work on system-level software development using C/C++ in embedded Linux ecosystems.
• Develop and support user-space applications, background services, daemons, and IPC-based modules for embedded systems.
• Integrate and optimize software for wireless connectivity technologies such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), including debugging and performance tuning.
• Interface with and develop support for hardware communication protocols including UART, I2C, SPI, SDIO, MIPI, USB, and BLE.
• Collaborate closely with hardware, validation, QA, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
• Perform debugging and troubleshooting on target hardware using tools such as logs, gdb, strace, oscilloscopes, meters, power supplies, and signal generators.
• Develop and maintain connectivity solutions using AWS IoT Core and MQTT for secure device communication and cloud integration.
• Participate in board bring-up, device integration, and firmware validation for new embedded platforms.
• Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, testing, integration, and firmware validation.
• Ensure software quality through structured testing, code reviews, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
• Maintain high standards of performance, reliability, and scalability in embedded software systems.
• Support development efforts involving Embedded Linux (Yocto or similar) and RTOS platforms (FreeRTOS or similar).
• Document design specifications, software architecture, debugging findings, and validation procedures for internal and cross-team use.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of proprietary information and adhere to organizational security and compliance standards.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities, interactions, and interruptions while maintaining professionalism.
• Demonstrate a high level of initiative, ownership, and self-motivation, while also mentoring or motivating team members when required.
• Establish and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with team members, stakeholders, and other engineering groups.
  
  

Expertise You'll Bring

• B S in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• 3+ years of Firmware/Embedded Systems Experience
• Experience with power supplies, meters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc.
• Maintains confidentiality of proprietary information
• Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere in a fast-paced environment with numerous interactions and interruptions
• A high degree of initiative, self-motivation, and ability to motivate others
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Team Members and colleagues
• Embedded Linux (Yocto or similar) and RTOS (FreeRTOS or similar)
• C/C++ in Linux environment
• Linux Programming/API Interfaces ○ User-space development (services, daemons, IPC, etc.)
• Debugging on target hardware (logs, gdb, strace, etc.)
• AWS IoT Core and MQTT for device connectivity and messaging
• Wi-Fi and BLE stack, including configuration, integration and debugging
• CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, testing and firmware validation
