Embedded Control & Real-Time Software Engineer
Location
: SunCubes – Milan, Italy
SunCubes develops laser-based wireless power systems for autonomous platforms such as UAVs and Pointing Systems.
To support the development of our embedded control, sensing and actuation systems, we are looking for an Embedded Control & Real-Time Software Engineer who can design and implement robust real-time spftware for sensor, actuator and communication integration.
You will work at the intersection of embedded software, real-time systems and control, contributing directly to the development of reliable, observable and high-performance embedded architectures.
What You Will Do
-
Design and develop embedded firmware in C/C++ for microcontroller-based systems, with a strong focus on real-time control and system integration.
-
Implement and optimize RTOS-based software architectures ensuring deterministic timing and efficient task scheduling for sensing, actuation, and control.
-
Develop and maintain low-level drivers and hardware interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C) with advanced peripheral configuration and DMA management.
-
Design and customize communication protocols (e.g., MAVLink extensions or similar), ensuring robust data exchange and low-latency performance.
-
Implement system health, telemetry, and diagnostics features, including logging, heartbeat mechanisms, and fail-safe logic for real-time monitoring.
-
Support system integration, calibration, commissioning, and tuning on test benches and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) platforms.
-
Collaborate closely with hardware, control, and software teams to integrate embedded subsystems into larger robotic architectures.
-
Where needed, support integration with industrial components and PLC / structured text environments.
Implement and optimize embedded subsystems such as:
-
Real-time scheduling and deterministic timing;
-
RTOS-based task architectures;
-
Resource and latency management;
-
Telemetry, logging, heartbeat and system diagnostics;
-
Communication protocol design;
-
MAVLink extensions or similar protocol customizations;
-
DMA;
-
Peripheral configuration and management.
