Seed Robotics builds advanced robotic hands and high-definition tactile sensing technology, used by research labs and industry worldwide. We are starting a 31-month European R&D project (Eurostars) with our Dutch partner Brighter Signals to develop a new generation of HD tactile sensors integrated into robotic hands — from first prototypes to a pre-series build.
We are hiring an Electronics Design Engineer to own the electronics of this work, based between our Oeiras office and our Torres Vedras engineering and testing facility (40 min from Lisbon), where our prototyping and characterization lab is located.
To be clear about the role: this is a hardware design position. You will create schematics and PCB layouts from a blank page — readout circuits, analog front-ends, interconnects — not integrate off-the-shelf modules or maintain existing designs. If you have not designed and debugged your own circuits, this role will not be a fit. Strong embedded C/C++ is also required, but it is the second skill, not the first.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Design sensor readout electronics from scratch: mixed-signal circuits for capacitive and resistive sensing, amplification, filtering
• Create schematics and PCB layouts (Fusion, Altium, KiCad or similar) for compact, high-channel-count sensor arrays
• Design the electrical interfaces between textile-based tactile sensors and embedded controllers: connectors, cabling, interconnect reliability, signal integrity
• Write bare-metal embedded firmware in C/C++ (e.g. RP2350/STM32) for high-rate data acquisition
• Characterize your designs on the bench: linearity, hysteresis, drift, noise, frequency response
• Build, test and iterate hands-on, through to a pre-series of 10-12 tactile robotic hands. Lab work happens at Torres Vedras (typically 1-2 days/week, more during build and test phases)
WHAT WE NEED TO SEE
• A completed degree (BSc or MSc) in Electronics Engineering or a closely related field
• Circuits you designed yourself — be ready to walk us through a schematic you created and the design decisions behind it
• PCB layout experience beyond two-layer breakout boards
• Embedded C/C++ on microcontrollers, and fluency with lab instrumentation (oscilloscope, DMM, logic analyzer)
• Working proficiency in English (our project partner is Dutch)
• Valued: low-noise measurement, analog front-end design, experience taking a design from prototype to small-series production
WHAT WE OFFER
• 32,000-35,000 EUR gross/year, permanent contract
• Full ownership of the electronics domain in a small, senior team — your designs go into real products used worldwide
• Direct collaboration with our Dutch project partner, including travel to Amsterdam
