Job Description

At Mentee Robotics, we are redefining humanoid automation with an AI-first approach - combining perception, reasoning, and dexterous manipulation into fully autonomous systems that continuously learn and adapt.

We are now expanding with a new robotics Engineering center in China, working hand-in-hand with our engineering teams in headquarters. Its mission: to rapidly develop our next-generation full-size humanoid and bring it to life - a walking, working platform that becomes the foundation of our next generation of products. This is a small, senior, hands-on team where speed of iteration is the core value.

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to design the Motor Controller PCB at the heart of every joint of our humanoid: a compact, high-current FOC drive that our embedded and motion control engineers will bring to life. You own the board - schematic to bring-up.

Who you are?
  • A power-electronics and mixed-signal designer who loves compact, high-density boards
  • Rigorous on the bench: you validate your design with current probes and thermal cameras, not assumptions
  • A close collaborator - your daily partners are firmware and control engineers

Responsibilities:
  • Design the joint motor controller PCB: inverter stage (MOSFET selection, gate drivers), phase current sensing, bus voltage sensing, and protections
  • Design encoder, temperature, and auxiliary sensor interfaces on the board
  • Integrate the communication physical layer (EtherCAT/CAN) and MCU subsystem in partnership with the embedded team
  • Own layout for high-current, high-density, thermally constrained boards that package inside actuator modules
  • Run board bring-up: power-on, signal integrity, current loop sanity, thermal validation under load
  • Iterate fast across board revisions with local PCB/PCBA suppliers together with sourcing
  • Support EMI/EMC robustness and harness/connector definition with the power systems engineer

Requirements:
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering
  • 8+ years designing motor drive or power electronics boards (BLDC inverters, servo drives, ESCs, or similar)
  • Strong schematic and layout skills (Altium or equivalent) for mixed-signal, high-current designs
  • Hands-on bring-up and debug experience: oscilloscopes, current probes, thermal measurement
  • Solid understanding of FOC drive requirements: current sensing accuracy, PWM dead-time, gate drive design
  • Experience working closely with firmware teams on board bring-up

Advantages:
  • Experience with integrated actuator drives ('smart joints') in robotics or drones
  • EtherCAT or CAN-FD hardware integration experience
  • Experience with GaN or high-frequency switching designs
  • Familiarity with functional safety concepts (STO, protections)
  • Comfortable communicating technical topics in English with international teams
