Electrical Engineer III

Location: San Diego, California (On-site)

About The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer III to join an innovative engineering team developing advanced electromechanical and motion control solutions for industrial applications. This position offers the opportunity to design, develop, test, and improve high-performance electrical systems while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and customer-facing teams.

The ideal candidate has strong expertise in brushless motor control, embedded systems, power electronics, PCB design, and motion control technologies and enjoys working in a hands-on product development environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical and electronic systems for advanced electromechanical products.
  • Design and implement brushless motor drivers and supporting power electronics.
  • Develop electrical solutions for motion control systems, actuators, electric motors, sensors, and related equipment.
  • Create electrical schematics, PCB layouts, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and engineering documentation.
  • Build, prototype, test, troubleshoot, and validate electronic hardware designs.
  • Perform circuit analysis, system integration, and product verification testing.
  • Support manufacturing during new product introduction and production activities.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Improve existing products by enhancing performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
  • Lead or participate in design reviews, engineering change activities, and risk assessments.
  • Develop technical documentation including wiring diagrams, assembly instructions, and test procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance to technicians during product assembly and integration.
  • Participate in customer technical meetings, project reviews, and engineering discussions.
  • Support custom engineering projects while ensuring technical, schedule, and quality objectives are achieved.
  • Provide technical support for field applications as required.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional electrical engineering experience.
  • Experience designing products within a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles and product development processes.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.


Required Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with brushless motor control and motor drive electronics
  • Extensive knowledge of three-phase AC/DC motors
  • Experience designing power electronics, including:
    • MOSFETs
    • IGBTs
    • Gate driver circuits
  • Experience designing embedded hardware using microcontrollers
  • Understanding of embedded system architecture and embedded software fundamentals
  • Experience with:
    • PWM
    • ADCs
    • DACs
    • UART
    • SPI
    • I2C
    • Serial communication interfaces
  • PCB schematic capture and PCB layout experience
  • Prototype development and hardware validation
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) creation
  • Product testing and troubleshooting
  • Experience using laboratory equipment including:
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Multimeters
    • Power supplies
    • PCB test equipment
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
  • Familiarity with Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), ERP/MRP systems, and product lifecycle processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Altium Designer
  • Experience developing motion control systems
  • Experience with electric actuators or electromechanical systems
  • Experience supporting new product development from concept through production
  • Previous customer-facing engineering experience
  • Experience leading engineering projects or design reviews
