The Audio Visual (AV) Hardware Engineer is responsible for the technical evaluation, validation, testing, and lifecycle support of AV technologies deployed across the enterprise. This role serves as the hands-on technical authority responsible for ensuring approved hardware and software solutions are reliable, supportable, secure, and fit for deployment at a global scale.
The ideal candidate brings extensive field engineering, commissioning, and operational support experience and understands the realities of deploying and supporting AV systems in production environments. This practical experience is essential when evaluating new technologies, validating manufacturer claims, assessing product maturity, and ensuring solutions can be successfully operated and maintained throughout their lifecycle.
Working closely with Product Managers, AV Design Engineers, Operations teams, and manufacturers, the AV Hardware Engineer provides the technical expertise and rigorous testing necessary to balance innovation with operational stability. The role is responsible for validating that new products, firmware updates, software releases, and architectural changes meet enterprise requirements before being introduced into production environments.
Key Responsibilities
Product Validation & Technical Evaluation

Perform hands-on evaluation and testing of AV hardware, software, and emerging technologies.

Validate that proposed products are fit for purpose within enterprise collaboration, event, conference center, and meeting room environments.

Apply real-world deployment and operational experience to assess product maturity, reliability, serviceability, and supportability.

Global deployment readiness

Provide technical recommendations regarding product adoption, limitations, risks, and deployment readiness.

Act as an independent technical advisor during product selection discussions.
Laboratory Testing & Verification

Develop and execute structured test plans for AV hardware, firmware, software, and platform updates.

Maintain lab environments used to replicate production deployments and validate technology changes.

Conduct interoperability testing across approved AV platforms and collaboration ecosystems.

Validate manufacturer performance claims through hands-on testing and real-world use-case simulation.

Identify product limitations, operational risks, and deployment challenges prior to production release.

Document all testing procedures, findings, and recommendations.
Firmware, Software & Regression Testing

Lead technical validation of firmware, software, and platform updates impacting approved AV solutions.

Develop and maintain regression testing procedures and standards.

Document testing results and provide deployment recommendations.

Support go/no-go decisions for production releases.
Cybersecurity & Compliance Support

Participate in technical reviews supporting cybersecurity and technology risk assessments.

Validate product compliance with enterprise security requirements and standards.

Assess security implications of proposed AV technologies and architectural changes.

Review manufacturer security documentation and patch management practices.

Support remediation testing and validation activities when vulnerabilities or security concerns are identified.
Operational Readiness & Supportability

Evaluate products through the lens of long-term operational support and maintainability.

Assess the availability of manufacturer support, replacement parts, software maintenance, and regional deployment considerations.

Ensure approved technologies can be effectively supported across multiple global regions.

Provide technical guidance regarding product lifecycle risks and supportability concerns.

Partner with operational support teams to identify recurring issues and opportunities for technology improvement.
Collaboration & Technical Governance

Work closely with Product Managers who own technology roadmaps, manufacturer engagement, pilot coordination, and hardware portfolio strategy.

Provide technical validation and engineering recommendations that support product management decisions.

Offer objective assessments of product maturity, deployment readiness, and operational risks.

Help ensure organizational technology decisions balance innovation with reliability, supportability, and operational stability.

Participate in standards reviews and technical governance discussions.
Documentation & Knowledge Management

Maintain comprehensive records of:

Develop technical standards, testing methodologies, and validation procedures.

Create knowledge articles and technical guidance supporting Operations, Engineering, and Deployment teams.
