Job Description

Position Overview:

The Digital Hardware Engineer designs, develops, and improves digital hardware used in embedded control platforms. This role blends hands‑on circuit and PCB design with cross‑functional collaboration, rigorous verification, and clear documentation-delivering reliable, production‑ready hardware that meets specification, safety, and quality standards.

Qualifications:

Experience & Education

  • BS/MS in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering.
  • 10+ years of electrical engineering experience with a focus on digital circuits.
  • Familiarity with analog circuits and power electronics preferred.

Technical Proficiency

  • Digital logic, embedded microcontrollers, and internal serial communications (SPI, I²C).
  • External communications (e.g. Ethernet, RS-232, RS-485) and protection in harsh environments.
  • Integrated design tools (e.g. Altium) for schematic and PCB layout.
  • Knowledge of circuit simulation tools (e.g. Plexim, Simulink, LTspice) preferred.
  • Knowledge of FPGA/CPLD development and HDL (e.g. VHDL, Verilog) preferred.
  • Knowledge of IPC-610, UL/CSA, and related compliance standards preferred.

Professional Skills

  • Strong documentation habits; clear, concise communication across engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Structured problem solving, ownership mindset, and attention to detail.
  • Exposure to project management processes.
  • Comfortable working in lab and manufacturing environments with high voltage and current.

Key Responsibilities

Circuit & PCB Design

  • Create and update schematics and printed circuit boards for embedded digital control systems.
  • Select components, manage constraints, and drive designformanufacture (DFM) and designfortest (DFT) practices.
  • Lead peer reviews for schematics, PCB layout, and design outputs.

Digital Interfaces & Embedded Systems

  • Design microcontroller I/O, logic‑level signal conditioning, and serial communication buses (SPI, I²C, UART).
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to define interfaces, timing, and board bring‑up procedures.

Verification, Test & Compliance

  • Plan and execute board‑level validation, functional tests, and environmental/EMC pre‑compliance checks.
  • Analyze test results, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to meet third‑party regulatory and safety standards.

Manufacturing & Cross Functional Support

  • Partner with manufacturing to resolve build issues and implement engineering changes.
  • Support release to production, including first article review and sustaining improvements.

Documentation & Release

  • Produce clear, production ready documentation: BOMs, cost estimates, interface specifications, and revision notes.
  • Maintain accurate revision control and change documentation throughout the product lifecycle.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with tools, components, and standards in digital hardware design, and champion process improvements.
