Senior / Principal Robotics Engineer (Flight Controls & Autonomy)
📍 Location: 100% Fully Remote (US-Based)
💰 Compensation: $170,000 – $200,000 + Founding-Team Equity
🛡️ Clearance: Must be a United States Citizen (Role requires active security clearance eligibility)
Our client is redefining the modern defense landscape by engineering low-cost, ultra-high-speed (140+ mph) Group 1 UAS and automated counter-drone interceptor technologies. As the winner of the
U.S. Army’s xTechSearch 8
and backed by premier defense accelerators like NSIN and Capital Factory, we bridge the gap between high-speed startup innovation and mission-critical defense needs.
Why this role is different:
Unlike typical hardware startups reliant on volatile venture capital cycles, AeroParagon’s runway and growth are fully secured by signed, stable government defense contracts. You get the explosive upside of a lean founding team with the financial ironclad security of locked-in federal funding.
🚀 What You Will Do
As our core Robotics Engineer, you will own the autonomy architecture and flight control software from simulation to deployment. You will design the brain of a highly tactical, agile autonomous platform built to operate effectively in contested, RF/GPS-denied environments.
-
Architect Autonomy:
Design, develop, and implement autonomous flight behaviors, obstacle avoidance, and target-tracking software.
-
Control Loop Optimization:
Deeply tune, test, and optimize low-level flight control loops, sensor fusion algorithms, and state estimation models.
-
HITL/SITL Simulation:
Build out robust hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) and software-in-the-loop (SITL) simulation testing environments.
-
Edge Deployment:
Deploy highly optimized code directly to low-SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) edge hardware.
🛠️ What We Are Looking For
We need an autonomous systems expert who can hit the ground running with zero hand-holding on the core flight stack.
-
Drone Platform Expertise:
Deep, hands-on production experience working inside the
PX4 autopilot ecosystem
(or highly equivalent stacks like ArduPilot/MAVLink).
-
Robust Programming:
Strong foundational coding skills in C++ and Python, with solid familiarity using ROS/ROS2 for robotic systems.
-
Simulation Savvy:
Experience utilizing simulation frameworks like Gazebo or similar environments to validate flight software behaviors before physical testing.
-
Hardware Familiarity:
Comfortable working adjacent to embedded systems and microcontrollers, knowing how software decisions directly impact hardware performance.
📋 Role Requirements
-
Citizenship:
Due to the nature of our government contracts and defense systems,
all applicants must be United States citizens
capable of obtaining and maintaining a U.S. Security Clearance.
-
Experience:
4+ years of dedicated engineering experience in UAS, robotics autonomy, or guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems.
🎁 What’s In It For You?
-
100% Remote Flexibility:
Work from anywhere in the United States while building advanced physical hardware.
-
Founding Equity:
Secure a meaningful equity stake in a fast-scaling defense tech startup at the ground level.
-
True Job Stability:
Rest easy knowing your work is backed by active, signed government revenue contracts.
-
No Bureaucracy:
Report directly to the founders, skip the corporate red tape, and see your code fly on physical platforms within weeks, not years.
