Job Overview
We are seeking a highly qualified Senior Optical-Electronic Engineer with a PhD degree to join our core Silicon Valley team. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role that combines deep technical leadership with end-to-end program ownership. You will work closely with our cross-functional R&D teams and serve as the primary technical interface with our strategic global customers. The position offers exceptional flexibility, with primarily remote work and only occasional onsite meetings at our Silicon Valley office.
Key Responsibilities
Own programs end-to-end, driving custom test system and optoelectronic projects from kickoff through delivery
Coordinate cross-functional R&D, hardware, and software teams to ensure technical alignment and on-time execution
Track project milestones, dependencies, and technical risks, proactively resolving blockers to keep delivery on schedule
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for strategic customers, leading high-level technical discussions and status reporting
Provide expert guidance on test system architecture, optical and system-level design, and validation & verification (V&V) strategies
Analyze and interpret analog/digital circuit designs OR optical system/opto-electronic subsystem designs, contributing to overall system architecture, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
Drive R&D initiatives in high-speed data communication and apply findings to advanced optoelectronic applications
Provide hands-on support for system bring-up, debugging, performance tuning, and customer-facing technical demonstrations
Qualifications
Required
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
Deep expertise in either (a) analog and digital circuit design or (b) optical system/opto-electronic design, with working familiarity in the other domain
Proficiency in high-speed communication and control protocols such as SPI and USB
Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver on schedule
Fluent in Mandarin Chinese (written and spoken) for effective communication with our global headquarters and customers
Proactive, hands-on engineering mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills for customer-facing technical interactions
Preferred
Combined expertise in both electrical and optical domains
Experience with optical system design, optoelectronics, or active alignment techniques
Track record of building custom test systems from concept to deployment
Previous experience interfacing directly with enterprise-level strategic customers
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive base salary starting at $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications (no upper limit for exceptional candidates)
