Embedded Systems Engineer (EU / Remote / Hybrid China–EU)
Build next-gen wearable camera hardware (4K edge processing)
About the role
We are a small hardware-tech startup building a
consumer wearable camera product
combining embedded systems, real-time image processing, and low-power edge computing.
We are looking for a
senior embedded systems engineer
who has shipped real devices into production and is comfortable working close to hardware constraints (performance, power, thermal, reliability).
You will take ownership of core firmware and embedded architecture powering a mass-market wearable device.
This is not an internal tooling role. This is
product-critical engineering
with direct impact on shipped hardware.
What you will build
You will work on systems such as:
-
Embedded firmware for camera + sensor pipeline (real-time video capture)
-
RTOS-based systems (task scheduling, interrupts, memory optimization)
-
Low-power optimization (battery + thermal constraints)
-
Peripheral integration (ISP, camera modules, IMU, storage, wireless)
-
System stability for long-duration recording (hours of continuous operation)
-
Hardware debugging and production issue resolution
-
Optimization of performance for constrained embedded environments
Depending on your background:
-
Embedded Linux / Yocto stack OR
-
MCU/RTOS firmware (STM32 / similar) OR
-
Hybrid camera pipeline systems
What we are looking forMust have
-
5+ years embedded systems experience (or equivalent depth)
-
Strong C/C++ at firmware level
-
Experience with
RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or equivalent)
-
Proven experience shipping hardware products (not prototypes only)
-
Debugging skills at hardware/software boundary
-
Experience with at least one:
-
Camera systems/image pipelines
-
Wireless systems (BLE / WiFi)
-
Low-power embedded design
-
Experience in EVT/DVT/PVT Pipeline
-
Experience with Ambarella and/or Qualcomm chipset
-
Strong understanding of embedded interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, USB, GPIO, PWM, ADC, I2S, MIPI, and related debugging methods.
Strong plus
-
Embedded Linux / Yocto experience
-
ISP pipeline exposure
-
Consumer electronics experience at scale
-
Experience with power optimization or thermal constraints
-
Prior work in drones, robotics, wearables, automotive, or IoT devices
What makes this role different
Most embedded roles are maintenance or incremental improvements.
Here, you will:
-
Optimize
core product firmware from DVT to PVT with the engineering team
-
Influence hardware decisions with engineering feedback
-
Work on a consumer product shipped globally
-
Operate in a small team with high ownership
-
See your work go directly into physical devices used by customers
Tech environment
-
Embedded C/C++
-
RTOS (FreeRTOS or similar)
-
Hardware: camera sensors, IMU, storage, wireless modules
-
Focus: performance, stability, power efficiency, reliability at scale
Location & working model
We are flexible:
-
Remote within Europe (preferred for overlap with core team)
-
A hybrid EU–China collaboration is possible
-
Occasional on-site visits (PVT + Mass-prod phases)
-
We care more about execution quality than location.
