Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to own the firmware development and technical direction of our next-generation IoT platform.

The successful candidate will lead the design, development, and maintenance of embedded software running on ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers (primarily STM32), enabling secure, battery-powered LoRaWAN connectivity while working closely with hardware, cloud, QA, and product teams.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role combining software architecture, implementation, and technical decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of embedded firmware for IoT products.
  • Own the technical direction and architecture of the embedded software platform.
  • Develop reliable, low-power firmware for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
  • Optimize firmware for reliability, responsiveness, and multi-year battery life.
  • Design and optimize LoRaWAN communications for battery-powered devices.
  • Design and implement secure, robust, and maintainable embedded software for connected devices.
  • Implement secure firmware update mechanisms (FOTA/FUOTA).
  • Own firmware quality, reliability, and maintainability throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Review firmware designs and code and promote engineering best practices.
  • Work closely with hardware engineers during board bring-up and validation.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to translate customer and business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with cloud teams to ensure seamless end-to-end system integration.

Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of embedded software development experience.
  • Strong C programming skills.
  • Extensive experience developing embedded firmware for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers (STM32 experience preferred).
  • Experience with RTOS environments (preferably FreeRTOS).
  • Experience developing connected IoT products.
  • Experience developing battery-powered embedded systems or other resource-constrained embedded devices, with a solid understanding of low-power design principles.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for embedded systems.
  • Experience developing firmware using communication interfaces and protocols such as UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, BLE, or LoRa.
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot complete IoT systems spanning embedded firmware, cloud services, and hardware.
  • Experience taking embedded products from development through production and supporting deployed products in the field.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with hardware, cloud, QA, and product teams.
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative software development practices.

Strong Advantage

  • Hands-on experience with LoRaWAN.
  • Knowledge of RF fundamentals and wireless communications.
  • Experience with wireless firmware updates (FOTA/FUOTA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing secure boot and secure firmware update mechanisms.
  • Experience contributing to products from concept through mass production.
  • Knowledge of cryptography and secure embedded development.
  • Experience working with AWS IoT or similar cloud platforms.
  • Experience with CI/CD for embedded software.
