Role

As a Robotics Systems Engineer at Jacobi, you’ll play a key role in bringing our AI-powered palletizing robots from the lab to the real world. You’ll work hands-on at customer sites to install, calibrate, and optimize robotic systems, integrating robot controllers, vision sensors, PLCs, and Jacobi’s motion-planning software into reliable, production-grade solutions. This role blends software, controls, and mechanical integration with real-world problem-solving, supporting deployments across North America and collaborating closely with our engineering and applications teams to continuously improve system performance and customer experience.

The salary range for this role is $100,000-$140,000, along with equity and benefits, providing a competitive and comprehensive package.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead installation, calibration, and commissioning of Jacobi robotic palletizing systems at customer sites.
  • Integrate robot controllers, sensors, PLCs, and Jacobi’s Python-based software into fully functional automation cells.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, networking, and motion-planning issues in the field and during testing.
  • Support system validation, performance tuning, and continuous improvement across deployments.
  • Provide technical support and training to customers and integration partners on system setup and operation.
  • Document configurations, test results, and lessons learned to help improve future deployments.
  • Collaborate closely with Jacobi’s software and applications teams to feed field insights back into product development.

Key Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Python, asyncio, or socket-based communication.
  • Familiarity with robot SDKs / APIs from major brands (ABB RAPID/EGM, Fanuc Karel/RMI, URScript, etc.).
  • Experience with I/O configuration and PLC interfaces (digital/analog I/O, safety circuits, sensors, grippers).
  • Knowledge of fieldbus protocols (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP) and industrial networking (switching, IP configuration, firewalls).
  • Experience deploying systems that integrate robots, conveyors, sensors, and vision systems.
  • Proven ability to commission robotic systems in the field - calibration, safety setup, network configuration, debugging.
  • Comfort working in customer environments (manufacturing, logistics, or warehouse settings).
  • Comfort with Linux environments, shell scripting, and basic DevOps (git, Docker).
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting ability under time pressure.
  • Strong communication and customer-facing skills - able to work collaboratively with integrators and end users.
  • Hands-on mindset - willing to wire sensors, adjust grippers, and run cycle tests.
