Job Summary:
The
Robotics Engineering Director
is a senior technical leader responsible for driving customer engagement, delivering high-impact robotics demonstrations, supporting pre-sales activities, and providing hands-on engineering expertise across intelligent robotics solutions. This role blends deep technical capability with business-facing responsibilities, enabling clients to understand, adopt, and scale modern robotics technologies. The director will guide early-stage solutioning, oversee technical PoCs and pilots, develop and run robotics demo labs in Asia, and contribute to capability development within the Robotic Intelligence CoE.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Engagement & Technical Leadership

Lead high-quality robotics demonstrations and technical walkthroughs for customers, partners, and executive stakeholders.

Represent robotics solutions during client visits, architecture discussions, and early-stage scoping workshops.

Convert complex robotics, AI, and autonomy concepts into clear, compelling narratives tailored to business and technical audiences.

Own and contribute to RFI/RFP responses, solution decks, and technical proposals focused on intelligent robotics.
Hands-On Engineering & Delivery Support

Provide expert-level robotics engineering support across development, system integration, testing, and on-site troubleshooting.

Lead PoCs and pilot implementations, ensuring alignment with technical KPIs, customer objectives, and delivery best practices.

Collaborate with solution architects and engineering teams to validate feasibility, architecture robustness, and scalability.

Drive root-cause analysis for system issues and ensure technical resilience across demo and customer environments.
Demo Lab Management & Experience Centers

Oversee the design, readiness, and continuous improvement of robotics physical labs and customer experience centers in Asia.

Ensure all demo systems—hardware platforms, autonomy stacks, perception pipelines, integrations—are reliable, current, and enterprise-ready.

Manage lab content updates, introducing new capabilities aligned with market trends, partner ecosystems, and practice roadmaps.
Solutioning & Business Growth

Support the Robotics Practice in pre-sales motions, proposal defense, client presentations, and early delivery planning.

Evaluate customer requirements and deliver new generation robotics solutions that balance innovation, cost, feasibility, and scalability.

Identify new opportunity areas, emerging technologies, and differentiating capabilities that enhance HCLTech’s robotics portfolio.
Reusable Assets, Frameworks & Standardization

Contribute to and govern the development of reusable accelerators, reference architectures, demo kits, and integration frameworks.

Promote consistent engineering practices, documentation standards, safety protocols, and delivery checklists across robotics projects.

Track asset adoption and ensure they drive measurable improvements in win rates, delivery velocity, and solution quality.
Capability Development & Team Enablement

Mentor engineers and architects, helping build deeper expertise in AI-driven robotics, autonomy, ROS/ROS2, manipulation, mobility, and integration.

Identify skill gaps and contribute to training plans, capability uplift programs, and talent development within the robotics practice.

Support internal communities of practice, knowledge sharing, and cross-functional collaboration across AI, Cloud, and Industry teams.
Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or related fields.

Typically, 10–15 years of experience in robotics engineering, autonomy systems, system integration, or intelligent automation.

Hands-on experience with ROS/ROS2, perception systems, navigation stacks, sensors, and robotics hardware platforms.

Proficiency in Python and/or C++ development with a strong understanding of robotics middleware and systems engineering.

Strong customer-facing communication skills and experience supporting pre-sales, RFP/RFI responses, and technical presentations.

Proven ability to deliver demos, PoCs, and pilots for enterprise clients across manufacturing, logistics, or service robotics.

Demonstrated leadership in mentoring teams, influencing stakeholders, and driving technical direction.
