We are seeking a Quantum Error Correction (QEC) Engineer to support the development and evaluation of quantum error correction strategies for next-generation quantum hardware. In this role, you will work closely with physicists, device engineers, and software teams to model, simulate, and analyse QEC protocols tailored to Diraq’s silicon-based quantum processors.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career researcher or engineer to contribute to cutting-edge quantum technology development while building expertise in quantum error correction and hardware-aware quantum systems. We’re open to applicants from Sydney or Melbourne (remote).
Required Qualifications & Experience
- PhD or MSc in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline
- Foundational knowledge of quantum error correction or quantum information theory
- Strong programming skills in Python or similar scientific computing languages (e.g. NumPy, SciPy)
- Solid grounding in mathematics, linear algebra, and numerical methods
- Experience with simulation, modelling, or data analysis in a scientific or research context
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
Preferred (Desirable) Experience
- Familiarity with solid-state or silicon-based quantum computing systems
- Exposure to QEC frameworks or simulation tools (e.g. Stim, Qiskit, Cirq, or equivalent)
- Understanding of noise modelling and error characterisation in quantum systems
- Experience or coursework in semiconductor physics or condensed matter systems
- Assist in the analysis and simulation of quantum error correction protocols
- Support the development and adaptation of QEC implementations aligned with Diraq’s hardware architecture
- Contribute to numerical modelling and simulation efforts to support quantum error correction experiments
- Work with experimental teams to interpret simulation results and provide insights that inform device design and experimental direction
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, theory, and software) to refine QEC approaches
- Maintain clear and thorough documentation of code, methodologies and findings to support knowledge sharing across the team
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge quantum hardware development
- Collaborative environment with leading experts in quantum computing
- Paid volunteer day to give back to a cause you care about
- Eligibility to participate in our employee incentive program
- Flexible working arrangements and supportive team culture
