The Information Sciences and Modeling group (A-1) is looking for outstanding candidates in the field of computer science to support programing and software development for quantum computers. The candidate is expected to work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment. Previous experience with quantum computing is desired but not required for this position.
This position is part of LANL's Advanced Network Science Initiative (ANSI), which is an interdisciplinary team comprised of physicists, engineers, mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientists. Our typical customers include the Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, and other national laboratories. Quantum Computer Scientist 1 (R&D Scientist 1) $94,500- $147,000
A successful candidate is expected to: Assist with developing software frameworks for quantum computers; participate in developing implementations of quantum algorithms; participate in conducting experiments on quantum computing hardware; and may contribute to technical reports for government agencies and peer reviewed journals. Candidates are expected to contribute to projects with LANL's Global Security program office. Previous experience with quantum computing is desired but not required for this position.
Quantum Computer Scientist 2 (R&D Scientist 2) $104,100 - $172,200
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires: Mentoring junior staff and peers in technical and professional growth. Works unsupervised on individual projects and/or contributes to larger team efforts. Develop software frameworks for quantum computers; develop implementations of quantum algorithms; conduct experiments on quantum computing hardware; and lead the development of technical reports for government agencies and peer reviewed journals. Candidates are expected to contribute to projects with LANL's Global Security program office. Previous experience with quantum computing is desired but not required for this position.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree, or higher, in a STEM field from an accredited college and university and 2 years of related experience.
Scientist 2
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor' degree in a STEM field from an accredited college and university and 4 years of related experience, typically with post-doctoral research experience at a university or national lab or equivalent experience directly related to the occupation.

Work Location:
The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
