Embedded Systems Test & Firmware Engineer

Location: Onsite

Pay Rate: Up to $69/hr

About the Role

A global medical‑technology manufacturer is seeking an experienced Embedded Systems Test & Firmware Engineer to support development, verification, and troubleshooting of complex electronic and embedded subsystems used in regulated medical products. This role focuses on building reliable test systems, validating embedded firmware, supporting root‑cause investigations, and ensuring compliance with engineering and quality standards.

You will work closely with electrical, firmware, systems, and quality engineering teams to ensure subsystem performance, reliability, and safety throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Test System Development — Design, build, and maintain automated test equipment, fixtures, and engineering test systems.
  • Firmware Validation — Support design verification testing, firmware validation, and subsystem integration activities.
  • Conduct root‑cause investigations, failure analysis, and corrective‑action support.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation including requirements, design specifications, test protocols, traceability matrices, and technical reports.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, risk assessments, and FMEA activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, automation, reliability, and engineering efficiency.
  • Communicate project status, technical risks, and trade‑offs to project leadership and cross‑functional teams.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, quality system requirements, and regulated medical‑device development processes.
  • Support supplier and external‑partner activities related to test equipment, components, and subsystem integration.

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate blends embedded firmware development , electrical engineering fundamentals , test system development , and hands‑on troubleshooting .

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering , Computer Engineering , Software Engineering , or related technical field (Mechanical Engineering is not a fit for this role)
  • 4+ years of engineering experience with embedded systems, firmware development, electrical design, and test‑system development
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Experience developing firmware for microcontroller‑based systems
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for electrical and embedded systems
  • Experience developing automated test equipment or engineering test fixtures
  • Familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, multimeters, and protocol analyzers
  • Strong problem‑solving and root‑cause investigation skills
  • Ability to produce clear, concise technical documentation
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in medical devices , aerospace , or other regulated industries
  • Familiarity with IEC 62304 software lifecycle processes
  • Knowledge of medical‑device standards such as IEC 60601 , IEC 14708 , ISO 14971 , or similar
