About the job

Company Description

Omokai is building natural language interfaces that allow anyone, including non-technical users, to communicate with drones, robots, and autonomous machines across environments such as shop floors, security inspections, and defense operations. Omokai is founded by Ex-head of AI @ Amazon.

Our sovereign architecture enables organizations in highly regulated industries to adopt AI with confidence. Omokai’s proprietary, model-agnostic orchestration layer supports TTS, STT, LLM, and vision models from Omokai, open-source, or third-party providers. We are also building our own models.

Our platforms are designed with military-grade security principles and are aligned with global AI regulations, including the EU AI Act and emerging frameworks in the Middle East and India.

Important Notes:

  • Depending on your skill this can be a Junior or mid-level or senior robotics engineer role.
  • Sallary: Equity Based. You get Equity based on your expertise.
  • Knowledge: You need to have a good balance of Academic and Robotics Engineering Knowledge. Having knowledge of AI is a plus
  • Location: Primarily Remote Germany.
  • Job type can be both full-time and part-time

Role Description:

  • Build AI systems that allow robots and drones to understand and execute natural language commands
  • Work with ROS 2, MAVLink, PX4, ArduPilot, Gazebo, and other robotics/autonomy tools
  • Integrate Omokai’s orchestration layer with robots, drones, sensors, edge devices, and cloud systems
  • Develop software components for perception, intent detection, planning, telemetry, and control
  • Connect LLMs, vision models, speech models, and robotics frameworks into real-world workflows
  • Test robotic behaviors in simulation before deploying to physical systems
  • Work with embedded hardware, onboard compute, sensors, cameras, GPS, IMUs, and communication modules
  • Optimize AI and robotics components for latency, robustness, and reliability
  • Build demos and prototypes for drones, mobile robots, autonomous machines, and multi-robot workflows
  • Collaborate with product, AI, and engineering teams on system design, safety, and deployment requirements
  • Help design human-in-the-loop approval flows for mission-critical robotics operations

What we are looking for:

We are looking for someone who has built real robotics systems, not just theoretical projects.

You should have:

  • Strong foundation in Computer Science and Software Development, including data structures, algorithms, and production-grade coding
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++
  • Hands-on experience with ROS or ROS 2
  • Experience with MAVLink, PX4, ArduPilot, QGroundControl, or drone-control systems
  • Practical experience with robotics projects involving drones, robots, autonomous machines, mobile robots, or embedded systems
  • Experience with neural networks, pattern recognition, and deep learning models for perception, control, or decision-making
  • Practical experience with NLP, especially intent detection, dialogue systems, or language understanding for command-and-control interfaces
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as Gazebo, Isaac Sim, RViz, or similar environments
  • Ability to integrate AI models with hardware, sensors, embedded boards, or edge devices
  • Understanding of physical AI and how AI systems interact with the real world
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, AI, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working in a remote, fast-paced startup environment

Hardware & embedded experience:

You should be comfortable working close to physical systems.

Relevant experiences includes:

  • NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, ESP32, STM32, or similar platforms
  • Cameras, LiDAR, depth sensors, GPS, IMU, motor controllers, and communication modules
  • Edge AI deployment on embedded or resource-constrained devices
  • Robot or drone assembly, wiring, debugging, and field testing
  • Basic electronics, soldering, sensor integration, or PCB bring-up
  • Serial, UART, CAN, I2C, SPI, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or radio communication

You do not need to be an expert in every area, but you should be comfortable building, testing, breaking, debugging, and improving real-world robotic systems.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with multi-robot coordination, drone swarms, or autonomous mission planning
  • Experience with computer vision, SLAM, object detection, tracking, or navigation
  • Experience with cloud platforms and secure edge-to-cloud deployments
  • Experience working in regulated or mission-critical domains such as industrial automation, defense, aerospace, inspection, or security
  • Experience with speech AI, LLMs, AI agents, or multimodal AI systems
  • Experience deploying robotics systems outside the lab
  • Experience designing safe, auditable, human-in-the-loop AI systems
