Position: Electronics Expert

Type: Hourly Contract

Compensation: $40–$80/hour

Location: Remote

Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

Role Responsibilities (Training support will be provided)

  • Evaluate a wide range of electronics including phones, laptops, monitors, TVs, home theater systems, audio devices (headphones, earbuds, soundbars), gaming peripherals, cameras, smart home products, and networking devices. Focus on shopper-relevant criteria like real-world performance, compatibility, and quality.
  • Write clear, concise, and objective product recommendations with links, specifications, pros/cons, and clear "who this is for" notes tailored to different budgets and ecosystems.
  • Compare products across price tiers and retailers, identifying good/better/best options, providing bundle suggestions, and noting availability and return policies.
  • Evaluate compatibility between devices (e.g., console + TV 4K120/VRR, laptop + dock + monitor, phone + wireless audio codec, camera + lens) and flag common pitfalls.
  • Create structured comparisons and brief buyer’s guides for various use cases (e.g., student laptop, travel camera, small-room soundbar, budget gaming PC peripherals).
  • Review and refine AI-suggested product picks, correct errors, annotate missing context, and improve recommendations.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in specialty retail (e.g., Best Buy, Micro Center, Crutchfield, B&H, Gamestop), manufacturer product specialist (e.g., Apple, Samsung, Sony), or credible editorial/reviewer experience. Passionate enthusiasts with a strong track record are also welcome.
  • Ability to translate technical specs into actionable buyer decisions, such as OLED vs. Mini-LED, IPS vs. VA, HDMI 2.1 features, and compatibility checks (e.g., NVMe vs. SATA, LDAC/aptX, IBIS).
  • Comfortable comparing products across multiple retailers and price tiers, fluent in writing specs and balanced pros/cons.
  • Strong understanding of safety, compliance (e.g., power/voltage standards, battery/charger safety), and authorized accessories. Avoidance of repair instructions or unsafe modifications.
