About Vydar

On today's battlefield, navigation, tracking, and detection systems must be scalable, cost-efficient, and resilient. They need to operate reliably in contested airspace, while accurately detecting and intercepting incoming threats.

At Vydar, we develop microelectronic hardware and software for AI-driven navigation in defence applications, including missile systems, aircraft, drones, and distributed sensing networks. We build our technology entirely from the ground up: proprietary hardware, software, and control systems, all designed, integrated, optimized, and validated in-house. This ensures full control over performance, security, and supply chain, with no reliance on restricted or foreign components.

We are looking for like-minded individuals who share our vision and want to help build something Europe does not yet have: strategically independent, scalable, and high-performance navigation systems.

Role Overview

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and scaling Vydar's next-generation defence technology. You will work closely with our founding team and technical partners to bring our solutions from lab to field deployment.

You will develop embedded software for constrained hardware and computer vision used in defense applications. This includes systems for missile platforms, UAVs, drones, and distributed sensing networks. The role combines low-level embedded development, system architecture, and hands-on testing in real-world environments.

You will join a team of 20 to 25 highly skilled engineers with backgrounds in aerospace, microelectronics, embedded hardware and software, and machine vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain firmware for integration of camera sensors
  • Building Yocto environments
  • Develop image processing pipelines on constrained hardware
  • Debug embedded hardware and software issues using tools such as JTAG, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes
  • Define and maintain software architecture across firmware, OS, and application layers
  • Optimize performance, latency, and power consumption
  • Support field testing, system bring-up, and on-site validation of deployed systems

Requirements

*We value enthusiasm, motivation, and a strong willingness to learn. Please consider applying even if you do not meet all listed requirements.*

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or Computer Engineering
  • MSc preferred, BSc considered with relevant experience
  • Yocto build development
  • Strong experience with embedded C, Rust or C++

Skills & Eligibility

  • Understanding of real-time systems and concurrency
  • Ability to debug complex system-level issues independently
  • Good communication in English (Dutch is a plus)
  • NATO citizenship

Technologies and Tools

FreeRTOS · Embedded Linux · C / C++ · Rust

**Nice to have:** Linux kernel / driver development · Hardware-software integration · SoC development · Defence / Robotics / AI · Startup or R&D experience

What We Offer

  • Work on meaningful, high-impact technology with real-world relevance in European defence
  • Flat and collaborative team culture with direct access to the founding team
  • Freedom to innovate, experiment, and grow professionally in a fast-moving environment
  • Role in a fast-moving European technology company with a clear mission
  • Opportunity for stock-program

We are working on something that is urgently needed. The project demands ownership, responsibility, and hands-on engagement with complex systems under tight timelines. If you want to build what Europe does not have today, we want to hear from you.
